Pub forced to turn away 47 customers after person books seven tables under false name then never turned up... - The Sun

A PUB was forced to turn away 47 customers after a person who reserved seven tables under a fake name never showed up.

The management at Black Ladd pub in Oldham, Greater Manchester, branded the prank as a "deliberate, disgusting act".

The pub said that all of the reservations were made during a 19-minute window on June 29 using false contact information and contact details.

Posting a sarcastic thank you message to the "individual or individuals" who made the bookings, the owner wrote: "All management and staff at The Black Ladd want to say a huge thank you to the individual or individuals who decided to use our online booking service to book tables using false information and wasting 42 seats in our restaurant yesterday (June 29).

"It’s not enough that our sector has already been hit the hardest due to covid, but this individual or individuals decided to book 7 tables each for 6 diners, all for yesterday using false data and telephone numbers each time with no intention of ever turning up."

The pub was even forced to turn away some of their loyal elderly customers who visit the pub every Tuesday evening.

The post went on to say that the prank was done for no other reason than wanting to "disrupt our business financially" and cost the staff to lose their hours which they rely on to live.

However, management wrote that in the post that they would ensure none of the staff was left "out of pocket due to someone’s act of stupidity."

The Black Ladd has been since forced to change its online system to avoid this happening again.

Customers will now have to provide card details from which money will be taken if there are no shows or late cancellations.

To make matters worse, the pub was forced to shut its doors on July 1 due to one of the staff members testing positive for coronavirus.

The Black Ladd Pub has been contacted for comment.
