Minecraft's Caves & Cliffs Part II Update Is Out Now - Here's How To Get It On Switch - Nintendo Life

The day has finally arrived: Minecraft's Caves & Cliffs Part II update has come to both Java and Bedrock Editions of the game, bringing new world generation and some rather lovely new caves.

We've covered the way the new terrain generation works already when we got our mitts on the Snapshot earlier this year, but after several more tweaks, patches, fixes and updates, the official release of Caves & Cliffs Part II is a much more stable experience.

To download the new update on your Switch, go to the Minecraft icon on your home screen, press the + button to open the Options, go to "Software Update" and select "Via the Internet". This will check for the update, although it may have downloaded it automatically already.

As for updating your existing worlds, Mojang have provided instructions:

How do I update my world?
On Bedrock Edition, once you have updated to 1.18 and go to load up an existing world, you will be shown a prompt and asked if you would like to make a backup copy of that world. If you do want to make a backup, be sure to hit the prompt and then click through to update your world and start playing.

Sadly, some of the features initially planned for Caves & Cliffs Part II — like the Deep Dark biome, the Warden, and archaeology — have been pushed back to the next update, 1.19, called "The Wild Update".

Here's the changelog for Bedrock Edition (that's the one on Switch):

  • Increased the world height and depth, adding 50% more vertical space to build and explore
  • New cave generation to explore below your existing worlds
  • New cave and mountain biomes like Lush Caves and Jagged Peaks
  • Drastically updated and improved biome, cave, and ore generation
  • Added several new music tracks to enjoy during gameplay
  • Fixed over 70 bugs, issues, and parity changes

If you have an existing world, Realm, or server, and want to know how these changes affect your world, check out Minecraft's handy FAQ on world updating.

Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Part 2 is finally here - Rock Paper Shotgun

We've waited so long for Minecraft's Caves & Cliffs update to be complete, but it's finally here. Caves & Cliffs Part 2 arrived today, bringing with it deeper underground layers, taller mountains, and a couple of new biomes to explore. I've been really eager for the 1.18 update specifically so I can build a nice home in the new Lush Cave biomes. Underground houses are the best! And now I can live near pretty cave plants!

Minecraft is well-known as one of the best Xbox games you can play, a commonly held assertion that's even more grounded with the public release of 1.18 Caves and Cliffs Update Part Two. This gargantuan update includes a ton of new features that combine with its predecessor, 1.17 Caves and Cliffs Update Part One, to become one of the most ambitious and large-scale Minecraft updates yet. If you want to jump to a specific Minecraft edition, here are the 1.18 changelogs for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition and Minecraft: Java Edition.

Minecraft: Bedrock Edition 1.18 Caves and Cliffs Update Part Two

New features

Increased world height & depth

  • Overworld height and depth for new and existing worlds has been extended to y320 and y-64, opening up more space to explore and build in

World blending

  • Players can now update existing worlds to include the new overworld height dimensions and world generation features
  • The bedrock layer at y0 below saved chunks will be replaced with Deepslate and feature new cave generation underneath
  • Biomes and terrain generating across new and existing chunk borders will blend seamlessly, creating natural-looking environmental transitions

Terrain & mountain generation

  • Terrain shape and elevation is no longer always determined by biome, resulting in new biome placements such as deserts on top of hills
  • Mountains are taller than ever and can now generate up to a maximum height of 256 blocks

Biomes, 3D biome generation, & biome distribution

  • Added 3D biomes — cave biomes can now generate directly below surface biomes
  • New cave and mountain biomes added, including Jagged Peaks, Meadows, Lush Caves and Dripstone Caves

Cave generation

  • Added noise caves — the three primary types of noise caves are large, open Cheese Caves, wide, tunnelling Spaghetti Caves and the narrow, winding Noodle Caves
  • Added aquifers — these create local level bodies of water such as flooded caves or underground lakes

Ore distribution & large ore veins

  • Added large ore veins — these long formations stretch through cave systems and contain larger deposits of ore than the clusters usually found underground
  • Ore distribution has been adjusted to compensate for the new world height

Mob spawning

  • Monsters will now only spawn in complete darkness. Players can spawn-proof dark areas such as caves using light sources

Music

  • Added new music by Lena Raine and Kumi Tanioka
  • Added a new music disc from Lena Raine titled "otherside". This can be found rarely in Stronghold corridor chests or much more rarely in Dungeon chests
  • Mobile players: To hear the new music, you will need to download the updated Minecraft Original Music Pack, available free from Marketplace

Achievements & Trophies

  • Caves & Cliffs — Freefall from the top of the world (build limit) to the bottom of the world and survive
  • Feels Like Home — Take a Stringer for a long ride on a lava lake in the Overworld
  • Sound of Music — Make the Meadows come alive with the sound of music from a jukebox
  • Star trader — Trade with a villager at the build height limit

Changes

Vanilla experiments

  • Added new "Vanilla Experiments" experimental toggle containing some blocks and items from The Wild Update, coming in 2022
    • Goat Horn
    • Sculk
    • Sculk Vein
    • Sculk Catalyst

  • Existing Old worlds are still playable but will not be updated with 1.18 features

Menu panorama

  • Added a new main menu panorama showing the beautiful cliffs of the Overworld

Android external storage

  • Players with external storage will be migrated to new location at start up, due to storage changes required by Google. You can still play if migration fails by closing the results window
  • With external storage being migrated to its new location in preparation for Google's new API requirements, you will now lose your data if you uninstall Minecraft, unless you check the box indicating you want to keep your data. We recommend checking this box if you wish to keep your worlds in the event you choose to reinstall Minecraft

Known issues

  • New world generation in this release is currently incompatible with the 'Creation of Custom Biomes' experimental toggle. Expect worlds with custom biome generation to be potentially unstable and for custom biomes to only exist in currently saved out areas of the world
  • World generation for the Minecraft Overworld has changed entirely with this release. This means old seeds will no longer spawn players in the same positions when playing 1.18. If creators are version locked to an old version of the game, their seeds will generate worlds as they were prior to 1.18

Ore distribution

  • Changed ore generation to match the new world height, and to add more strategy to mining. There is no longer a single height level that is best for all ores — you need to make tradeoffs!
  • Iron Ore generates below height 72, with a strong bias towards height 16. Iron Ore also generates above 80, with more Iron Ore as you go higher.
  • Copper Ore generates between height 0 and 96, with a strong bias towards height 48. Copper Ore generates in larger amounts in Dripstone Caves Biome.
  • Lapis Lazuli Ore generates below height 64, with a strong bias towards height 0. However, Lapis Lazuli Ore below height -32 or above height 32 cannot generate exposed to air. It will either be buried or inside water.
  • Coal Ore generates above height 0, with a strong bias towards height 96 and above. Coal Ore has reduced air exposure, so you will find more Coal Ore buried or underwater than exposed to air.
  • Gold Ore generates below height 32, with a strong bias towards height -16. Extra Gold Ore generates below height -48. Extra Gold Ore can be found in Badlands biomes above height 32.
  • Redstone Ore generates below height 16. Redstone Ore generation gradually increases as you go below height -32 and further down.
  • Diamond Ore generates below height 16, with more Diamond Ore the lower you go. Diamond Ore have reduced air exposure, so you will find more Diamond Ore buried or underwater than exposed to air.
  • Emerald Ore generates above height -16 in mountainous biomes, with more Emerald Ore the higher you go. Emerald Ore below height 0 is very rare!

Noise caves & aquifers

  • Noise caves are a new way of generating caves, providing more natural variety. They can get really huge sometimes! Noise caves come in three flavors:
    • Cheese caves: Like the holes in swiss cheese. These often form caverns of various size
    • Spaghetti caves: Long squiggly tunnels, sometimes wide like tagliatelle
    • Noodle caves: Thinner, squigglier, and more claustrophobic variant of spaghetti caves
  • No, they aren't loud. The "noise" part of noise caves is a technical term and has nothing to do with sound.
  • The old cave carvers and canyons still generate, combining with the noise caves to form interesting cave systems
  • As with carvers, noise caves form cave entrances where they intersect the surface
  • An aquifer is an area with local water level, independent of sea level
  • Aquifers are used during world generation to generate bodies of water inside noise caves
  • This sometimes results in large underground lakes
  • They can also form inside mountains and on the surface
  • Aquifers below y0 will sometimes be lava aquifers instead of water aquifers
  • Magma Blocks sometimes generates at the bottom of underground bodies of water
  • Underwater cave carvers and underwater canyons have been removed, since aquifers are used to generate water in caves instead

Sprinting

  • Previously, any collision with a block would reduce sprinting to walking. Now, for very minor angles of collision with a block, players retain their sprint. For larger angles of collision, the old behavior is retained

World blending

  • The transition between new and old terrain is less "cliffy"
    • Will surface height blend? Yes
    • Will biomes blend? Yes
    • Will caves blend? Your mileage may vary
  • In old chunks, if there is any Bedrock at y=0, the sections below non-air blocks will be filled with new generation
  • The old Bedrock between y=0 and y=4 in old chunks gets replaced with Deepslate
  • A new Bedrock layer is placed at y=-64

World generation

  • Generation range and build limits have been expanded by 64 blocks up and 64 blocks down, to a total range of 384 blocks
  • Underground features, structures, and caves generate all the way down to y-64
  • Exception: Diorite, Granite, Andesite, and Dirt will not generate below y0
  • Tweaked size and positioning of Diorite, Andesite, and Granite generation
  • Dripstone clusters can no longer be found in normal caves, only in Dripstone Caves biomes
  • Starting from y8 and below, Deepslate gradually replaces all Stone
  • Deepslate blobs no longer generate above y0
  • The terrain shape and elevation varies dramatically, indepedently from biomes
    • For example, forests and deserts could form up on a hill without needing a special biome just for that
  • Less Diorite, Granite, and Andesite generates above y 60
  • Strips of Gravel can generate in stony shores
  • Swamp trees can grow in water 2 blocks deep (instead of just 1 block deep)
  • Removed water lake features, aquifers provide local water levels
  • A bunch of biome variants with simular features but different shapes have been merged into one, since the shape is controlled independently now
  • Renamed some biomes
  • Geodes now only generate up to height 30

Technical updates

  • Added an accessibility option to stop the sky from flashing during thunderstorms
  • Added fall_from_height and ride_entity_distance advancement triggers
  • Changed nether_travel to match other similar triggers
  • Added an option to specify the audio device used by the game
  • Replaced light and barrier particles with block_marker
  • Replaced the clientbound chunk update network packet with another one that additionally contains light update data
  • The separate light update packet still exists and is sent when a light update happens without a chunk update
  • New video setting called "Chunk Builder"
  • Changed the prioritization order of the chunk rendering pipeline
  • Unrendered chunk holes in the world should not appear anymore while flying fast with high render distance
  • View distance now causes chunks to load cylindrically around players instead of in a square
  • Added "Toggle Sprint" and "Toggle Sneak" to the Controls settings
  • Moved Keybinds out to their own settings screen, accessible from Controls
  • Information about the world generation noise is now displayed on the debug screen
  • Added illageralt, rune-like font from Minecraft Dungeons (currently only usable via commands)
  • Added startup option --jfrProfile and command jfr to start profiling with Java Flight Recorder as well as a few custom events
  • Loot table functions set_contents and set_loot_table now require a type field with a valid block entity type
  • Added new loot table function set_potion
  • The maximum amount of background threads are increased
  • Worlds last saved before Minecraft 1.2 (pre "Anvil") can no longer be opened directly
  • Data pack format has been increased to 8
  • Resource pack format has been increased to 8
  • --report option in data generator now creates reference files for the entirety of the worldgen, instead of just the biomes
  • Removed length limits for scoreboard, score holder, and team names
  • Standalone server.jar now bundles contains individual libraries instead of being flat archive
  • Size limit for server resource packs has been increased to 250 MB
  • Servers can now set propertyhide-online-players to true in order to not send a player list on status requests
  • New setting called "Simulation Distance"
  • Mob spawners can now override light checks for spawning
  • Added telemetry for world loading

Advancements

  • Changed triggers
    • nether_travel:
    • entered condition is renamed to start_position
    • exited has been removed since it was identical to player.location
  • New triggers
    • fall_from_height:
    • Triggered when a player lands after falling
    • player — a player for which this trigger runs
    • start_position — a location predicate for the last position before the falling started
    • distance — a predicate for the distance between start_position and the player
  • ride_entity_in_lava
    • Triggered for every tick when a player rides in lava
    • player — a player for which this trigger runs
    • start_position — a position where the riding started (first tick on lava)
    • distance — a predicate for the distance between start_position and the player

Chunk builder setting

  • This setting determines if chunk sections are updated immediately during a single frame, or asynchronously using threads
  • "Fully Blocking" corresponds to the previous way chunks were updated, which prevents potential visual gaps when blocks are destroyed
  • "Threaded" will significantly reduce stutters when blocks are placed or destroyed (especially with light sources), however brief visual gaps may rarely occur
  • "Semi Blocking" is the middle-option, and will only immediately update chunks that are deemed important, otherwise updates occur asynchronously using threads

Java 17

  • Minecraft now uses Java version 17. If you are using a default setup, the Launcher will download and install the correct version. If you are using a custom Java setup, or a third-party launcher, you will need to ensure that your Java installation is version 17 or above

JFR Profiling

  • Custom events
    • All events are enabled when starting the profiling using either jfr start command or --jfrProfile startup flag.
    • If profiling is started through any other means for monitoring purposes, only the ServerTickTime, LoadWorld and NetworkSummary are included by default
    • minecraft.ServerTickTime: periodic event (1 second intervals) exposing average server tick times
    • minecraft.NetworkSummary: periodic event (10 second intervals) reporting total packet sizes and counts per connection
    • minecraft.PacketReceived | minecraft.PacketSent: network traffic
    • minecraft.ChunkGeneration: time taken to generate individual chunk stages
    • minecraft.LoadWorld: initial world loading duration
  • Overview
    • Java Flight Recorder is the internal JVM profiling tool bundled with the Java Runtime to analyze performance and runtime characteristics
    • It's a useful tool for exposing internal JVM performance metrics as well as custom metrics that can be monitored or analyzed using any stock Java profiler or monitoring agents
  • Profiling lifecycle
    • Started by:
    • --jfrProfile startup flag when starting a Minecraft server or client
    • jfr start in-game command
    • Regular Java CLI tools such as jcmd
    • Stopped by:
    • shutting down the JVM
    • jfr stop in-game command
    • jcmd CLI tool
  • Reports
    • A summary JSON report is written both to the log file and in the debug folder accompanied by a .jfr recording ready to be analyzed in JMC or any other profiler tool supporting the format

Loot tables

  • Changed functions
    • set_contents & set_loot_table:
    • Added new mandatory field type. This type will be written into BlockEntityTag.id, to make sure that this tag can be correctly migrated between versions
  • New functions
    • set_potion:
    • Sets the Potion tag on any item
    • id — potion id

Maximum background threads

  • Various background tasks including worldgen are executed on a background thread pool
  • The default thread pool size equals the amount of available CPU threads, minus one
  • The upper thread pool limit has been raised from 7 to 255, which should help higher-end machines with improved world-gen performance
  • The upper limit can be overridden via the max.bg.threads Java system property, for example when running multiple servers on a single machine

Mob spawning

  • Monster spawning limits are now per-player, rather than global for each dimension

Old world conversion

  • Worlds last saved before Minecraft 1.2 (pre "Anvil") now require conversion in a previous version of the game to be able to be opened
  • We recommend that you upgrade your old version, 1.2 (pre "Anvil") or older, to version 1.6.4 - worlds opened for the first time in later versions will have incorrect biome information

Particles

  • block_marker
    • Renders with a texture declared in the particle slot for a model assigned to the configured block state
    • Is summoned with same syntax as the block particle (like block_marker wheat[age=2])

Resource pack format

  • minecraft/textures/gui/container/inventory.png now contains an extra sprite for a thin-layout version of the effect list in the inventory

Server bundling

  • server.jar now bundles individual libraries instead of merging all the files into a single archive
  • This change is meant to solve certain problems related to Java modules
  • On startup, server.jar will unpack libraries into a directory configured by bundlerRepoDir (default: working directory)
  • To run a different main class other than the server, use the bundlerMainClass property (for example java -DbundlerMainClass=net.minecraft.data.Main -jar server.jar --reports) or unpack the jar manually and use the contents of META-INF/classpath-joined for command line
  • If bundlerMainClass is empty, the program will just validate and extract files, and will then exit
  • Server classes are now signed

Simulation distance setting

  • A new slider which is available under video settings
  • Entities, blocks, and fluids will not be updated outside of simulation distance
  • Allows higher render distance with less CPU load
  • There's also a new simulation-distance property in the dedicated server properties

Spawner data changes

  • Spawners now support the custom_spawn_rules NBT in the SpawnData field and the SpawnPotentials list
  • custom_spawn_rules currently may contain fields block_light_limit and sky_light_limit — both are integer ranges with fieldsmin_inclusive and max_inclusive
  • To make SpawnPotentials format similar to other weighted lists, structure was changed to {weight: <int>, data: <previous contents without 'Weight', 'Entity' renamed to 'entity'>}
  • To accomodate that change, previous contents of SpawnData were moved to SpawnData.entity (making format of that field same as elements of SpawnPotentials.data)

Telemetry

  • In this release, we are re-introducing diagnostic tracking, which was part of Minecraft: Java Edition until 2018. We are bringing it back to better understand our players and to improve their experience. Specifically this information will help us prioritise various aspects of development and identify pain points. All data is treated according to GDPR and CCPA best practices and is used to develop a better-performing and generally more enjoyable Minecraft: Java Edition
  • At this point, the only implemented event is world load
    • Sent when loading singleplayer world or connecting to multiplayer server
    • Contains following information:
    • launcher identifier
    • user identitifer (XUID)
    • client session id (changes on restart)
    • world session id (changes per world load, to be reused for later events)
    • game version
    • operating system name and version
    • Java runtime version
    • if client or server is modded (same information as on crash logs)
    • server type (single player, Realms or other)
    • game mode

World data: chunk format

  • Removed chunk's Level and moved everything it contained up
  • Chunk's Level.Entities has moved to entities
  • Chunk's Level.TileEntities has moved to block_entities
  • Chunk's Level.TileTicks and Level.ToBeTicked have moved to block_ticks
  • Chunk'sLevel.LiquidTicks and Level.LiquidsToBeTicked have moved to fluid_ticks
  • Chunk's Level.Sections has moved to sections
  • Chunk's Level.Structures has moved to structures
  • Chunk's Level.Structures.Starts has moved to structures.starts
  • Chunk's Level.Sections[].BlockStates and Level.Sections[].Palette have moved to a container structure in sections[].block_states
  • Chunk's Level.Biomes are now paletted and live in a similar container structure in sections[].biomes
  • Chunk's Level.CarvingMasks[] is now long[] instead of byte[]
  • Added yPos the minimum section y position in the chunk
  • Added below_zero_retrogen containing data to support below zero generation
  • Added blending_data containing data to support blending new world generation with existing chunks

World generation

  • Bedrock layers now generate dependent on the world seed
  • New random number generator for overworld generation

Bug fixes

  • About 250 bugs were fixed in this release

BBC iPlayer finally arrives on PS5 with 4K support - The Verge

The BBC is finally bringing its iPlayer app to the PS5 in the UK today, more than a year after the console’s original release. Brits have been waiting patiently for BBC iPlayer on the PS5, especially as the app is already available on more than 15,000 devices, including Xbox Series X / S consoles.

The BBC iPlayer app is now available in the media tab on the PS5 home screen, and it includes support for streaming 4K content from the service. “From today, PS5 owners can add the BBC iPlayer app by going to the Media tab on the PS5 home screen and selecting BBC iPlayer from the All Apps section,” explains Neil Hall, head of product at BBC iPlayer. “This will add BBC iPlayer to the apps library and make it available to use direct from the PlayStation home screen.”

The iPlayer app for PS5 arrives just in time for the influx of Christmas TV shows, movies, and season finale of Doctor Who: Flux.

Xbox cloud gaming gets Clarity Boost feature on PC - Eurogamer.net

If you use Microsoft Edge.

Microsoft Edge may not be everyone's favourite internet browser, but there's a decent reason to use it today - to try a new Clarity Boost feature for Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Clarity Boost is currently being tested using Microsoft Edge Canary - an insider-focused build of the browser - before a general rollout to all Edge users by next year.

"This feature uses a set of client-side scaling improvements to improve the visual quality of the video stream," Xbox program manager Milena Gonzalez said in a blog post, showcasing a side-by-side comparison image to demonstrate the difference:

1

When playing via Microsoft Edge Canary, an option to "Enable Clarity Boost" will be available from the more actions (...) menu when playing any game.

There's no word yet on whether Clarity Boost will be available in future via other browsers, or eventually on consoles.

Earlier this month, Microsoft officially launched Xbox Cloud Gaming on Xbox One and Series X/S to Game Pass Ultimate subscribers in 25 countries, including the UK, Australia and US.

Someone at Amazon forgot to test the Appstore on Android 12 - Android Authority

Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus on coffee table

Eric Zeman / Android Authority

TL;DR

  • The Amazon Appstore is broken on Android 12 devices.
  • Users are unable to launch apps downloaded from Amazon’s store.

The Google Play Store is the overwhelmingly popular choice when it comes to downloading Android apps, but the Amazon Appstore is one of the more prominent alternatives out there. In fact, it’s also the Android app market of choice for Windows 11.

Unfortunately, it seems like the Amazon Appstore is broken on Android 12 more than a month after the update’s release to device manufacturers. More specifically, users on the Amazon support forum (h/t: Slashdot and Liliputing) complain that most if not all of their apps downloaded from Amazon’s storefront aren’t working on their Android 12 devices.

The issue seems to be related to Amazon’s DRM and applies to both free and paid apps. Some users also say their app library isn’t showing up on the Amazon AppStore app either.

The first complaints appeared just over a month ago, and there were still comments trickling in as recently as today. So it seems like Amazon might be dragging its feet on this situation. It’s not a good look at all, as beta versions of Android 12 had been available for testing for months.

Nevertheless, the company has since taken to running a message in the app for affected users:

We’re excited about Android 12 too. Unfortunately we’re working through some issues. Thank you for your patience as we get your Appstore back

Haven’t upgraded to Android 12 yet? Well, if you’re an Amazon Appstore user, we’d clearly caution against doing so for now. There’s simply no way of knowing how long it will take for the issue to be addressed.

Valve Reportedly Working on a Half-Life Shooter-Strategy Game Tailored for Steam Deck - IGN

Valve is reportedly working on an upcoming Half-Life shooter-strategy game, codenamed Citadel, that will be tailored for play on the Steam Deck.

According to reports by Valve News Network content creator Tyler McVicker, Valve is currently working on a project codenamed Citadel. As detailed in a video uploaded to McVicker's YouTube channel, Citadel will apparently be an FPS/RTS co-op game based on the Half-Life franchise.

According to McVicker, Citadel is will have a style akin to what you might expect if "Left 4 Dead, Alien Swarm, an RTS, and Half-Life [were] all having a baby." While the project is yet to be officially announced by Valve, McVicker says that the game is being designed "with the Steam Deck in mind, due to how the game is supposed to be controlled."

McVicker goes on to state that originally the game was supposedly intended to include a "VR asymmetric co-operative component" but that it's very possible the studio might have decided to leave that component of the game behind during development.

While McVicker states that the game is reported to "best showcase what the Steam Deck is capable of," he also estimates that a potential timeline for the game could be some time "within the next year-and-a-half to two years." According to an article by PCGamesN, McVicker confirmed that he had received the information shown in the video through datamines of regularly-updated Valve software as well as his own research into Citadel, which he has been carrying out since 2018.

Steam Deck Teardown

Valve's last entry into the Half-Life series came with the 2020 release of Half-Life Alyx - a game that successfully allowed players to head back and fully immerse themselves in the Half-Life universe through its VR-based gameplay. Upon release, IGN reviewed Half-Life Alyx awarding it a 10/10 and stating that it had "set a new bar for VR in interactivity, detail, and level design."

Despite the endless calls from fans to make Half-Life 3, there is still little hard evidence suggesting that the studio is currently working on the threequel. In fact, last year, a list detailing multiple cancelled projects by Valve revealed that the studio had once been working on a game referred to within the studio as Half-Life 3 before it was dropped sometime in 2014.

McVicker himself says that a small team is still working on an idea for Half-Life 3, but that the bulk of Valve is focused on Steam Deck-related projects right now. For more on the Steam Deck make sure to check out this article detailing why Valve has delayed the console's launch until early 2022.

11 amazing looking games you didn't know existed - VG247

We’ve nearly reached the end of 2021. A rough year for sure, and not one with too many high points. But, we’ve at least got the future to look forward to, including all the great games we can see coming on the horizon.

There are the massive blockbusters, of course, but there may also be some absolute bangers around the corner you’re still not aware of just yet. Who knows, maybe your favourite game of of the generation is something you don’t see coming.

We may just be able to help with that. Dorrani has cooked up a video showcasing 11 awesome looking games coming soon, and we’re pretty sure you’ll be seeing a good portion of them for the first time. If you’re interested in learning more, you can check out this video embedded above for your viewing pleasure.

There’s a good range included so everyone will likely see something they're keen on. We’ve got a large showing from some promising looking Chinese developers like Leenzee Games and its awesome looking souls-like Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. We first caught a glimpse of this title back in September and it’s still sticking with us even now.

Korean studio Shift Up Games is keeping the character action genre alive and well with Project Eve, which showed off some stylish combat sequences against gnarly monsters back during the PlayStation Showcase earlier this year. This absolutley looks like the sort of game that'll appeal to Devil May Cry or Bayonetta fans out there.

Finally, and my favourite of the bunch: The Lost Wild. A dinosaur survival game that is sure to appeal to all your Jurassic Park or Dino Crisis diehards still hanging on. Judging by the short trailer we’ve seen so far, this title looks to bring back a much loved horror angle back to dinosaur games. Count me in!

There are way more games featured in the video that you should absolutely check out yourself. Tell us which of the games included you’re hyped for below, or if there’s another game we missed that has got your attention.

Street Fighter 5 Luke gameplay video offers a look at the character dubbed "the future of Street Fighter" - Eurogamer.net

Pack-a-punch.

Capcom has released a gameplay video of Street Fighter 5's final DLC character, Luke.

Luke, who Capcom has dubbed "the future of Street Fighter" and a "major" part of the next Street Fighter game (and has been likened to Jake Paul by many fans), is an offense-heavy puncher from the USA.

The sense I get from the gameplay is Luke is an offensive, high-pressure character whose punches hit hard. All three of his normal punches propel Luke forward, so he can close distances quickly. He's got two target combos, a mid-to-long range projectile and an anti-air that launches him upwards.

Luke also has a unique V-System. Both his V-Triggers cause his V-Gauge to turn into a timer that continuously fills in a neutral state. Unlike any other Street Fighter 5 character, Luke gains V-Timer by doing damage, but he loses V-Timer when taking damage or using his V-Trigger-specific moves. The idea is Luke's opponent will be forced to approach to prevent Luke from maintaining a filled V-Timer.

We also get a look at Luke's Critical Art, which, as you'd expect, packs a punch.

Luke comes out today, 29th November - over five-and-a-half years after Street Fighter 5 launched in February 2016.

Here's why you can't find a PS5 deal this Cyber Monday (and how to get one) - What Hi-Fi?

Black Friday might have been and gone, but if there's one other day you can rely on for deals it's Cyber Monday. You can still secure mega markdowns on everything from TVs to toasters, headphones to holidays, but there’s one product you won’t see with a knockdown price – yep, Sony's PlayStation 5

The Japanese giant’s next-gen console has been in short supply since launching over a year ago, to the point that simply getting hold of PS5 stock at the full retail price is a Cyber Monday ‘PS5 deal’ in itself.

The good news? Hope is on the horizon. We saw an uplift in stock during Black Friday with consoles, bundles, games and accessories all up for grabs but, inevitably, these were all snapped up in a matter of seconds. So what’s the secret to bagging a PS5 during the Cyber Monday restocks if they should happen? And why is PS5 stock in such short supply?

There’s little doubt that global chip shortages, shipping delays and bots (which snap-up any stock) have made it a struggle for the average gamer to buy a PS5 console this year. There’s even a conspiracy theory that Sony deliberately squeezes supply to give the PS5 an aura of ‘exclusivity’. Hmmm. But perhaps the biggest real culprit is COVID-19.

With half the world plunged into lockdown, and millions asked to work from home, demand for all games consoles – and especially Sony’s first new PlayStation for seven years – sky-rocketed. When the first wave of PS5 stock was released on 12th November 2020, it sold out within days. As did the next batch, and the next, and the next... As the ongoing pandemic stretched Sony’s manufacturing and supply capacity to breaking point, more and more gamers were left PS5-less.

In May 2021, Sony privately warned analysts that PlayStation 5 shortages would continue until 2022: "I don’t think demand is calming down this year and even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldn’t be able to catch up with demand," said a gloomy Hiroki Totoki, the company's Chief Financial Officer.

And just a few weeks ago, Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Jim Ryan addressed “historic demand” for the PS5, and admitted that “inventory constraints remain a source of frustration for our customers”.

He also assured customers that Sony is "laser-focussed" on shipping as many console units as possible, but, truth is, the company expects to produce one million fewer consoles – 15 million, rather than 16 million – in the financial year ending March 2022.

In short, getting hold of a PS5 isn't getting any easier. But that's not to say it can't be done. You'll need to keep an eye on social media (@PS5StockAlert is one of the most reliable places to find PS5 stock tips). Combine good intel with the secrets below, and you should be able to scoop Sony’s 4K console in the Cyber Monday sales.

1. Sign up and sign in
Open a free account with all the major PS5 retailers (Amazon, Argos, Walmart, Best Buy, Box, Smyths Toys, PlayStation Direct, Game, GameStop, etc) and sign in before PS5 stock drops. This will make for a faster checkout process - otherwise you can lose your console before you checkout.

2. Fill your basket
Add the PS5 of your choice to your shopping basket in advance. That way, it’s there when stock drops. With demand set to explode this holiday season, every second counts.

3. Download the app
Most retailers have iOS/Android phone apps. And since apps tend to be more stable than websites, they're less prone to crashing when PS5 stock goes live. The Amazon app is a must. Those in the UK should also download the Argos app.

4. Join a loyalty program
In the UK/US, Amazon Prime members get first crack at any PS5 stock. So if you're not a Prime member, you're at a huge disadvantage. (Here a 30-day free Prime trial if you need it.) PS5 hunters in the States should also consider joining Walmart Plus.

In all honesty, there isn’t ‘one thing’ you can do to get a PS5 – you have to do everything, because in our experience, persistence eventually pays off. Need some inspiration? Just take a look at some of the best Cyber Monday PS5 deals we’ve spotted, including 50% off some of the biggest PS5 titles and 34% off a 12-month PlayStation Plus subscription.
