New Mario Kart announced for Nintendo Switch - with a twist - digitalspy.com

Nintendo has confirmed that an all-new iteration of Mario Kart is coming to the Nintendo Switch later this year – and this time there's a very exciting twist in store.

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuits will allow players to experience all the fun of the iconic video game in the real world in the form of an augmented reality game that allows players to control their very own remote control kart on custom courses set up at home.

The game will ship with either a Mario-themed kart or a Luigi-themed one and was developed in partnership with a new New York-based studio called Velan Studios as part of the Super Mario Bros' 35th anniversary celebrations.

As seen in the trailer, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is a racing game which sees players use their Switch to drive remote-controlled cars. The cars, along with the virtual racecourse, then appear on the Switch's screen, and you are able to race against virtual opponents on tracks that wind around real-life obstacles.

"The physical kart responds to boosts in-game and in the real world, stops when hit with an item and can be affected in different ways depending on the race," Nintendo describes (via The Verge).

"Players place gates to create a custom course layout in their home, where the only limit is their imagination. Race against Koopalings in Grand Prix, unlock a variety of course customisations and costumes for Mario or Luigi, and play with up to four players in local multiplayer mode."

The game is set to launch on October 16 and is available to pre-order now. Each set will cost £99.99 in the UK, or $99.99 in the US.

The news of Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit was announced alongside Nintendo's confirmation that some classic Mario games will be coming to the Switch for a limited time only.
