Each year, Virgin Media customers are hit by a price hike to their monthly bills in October. Last year, the monthly cost increased by around £4 a month – not an inconsiderable amount for the same service. But while Virgin Media customers are used to getting a shock when they tear open their bills in October... this year promised to be a little different.
There's likely still going to be a shock when customers open their letters – albeit a good one. That's because Virgin Media has confirmed that its customers won't be hit with any increases to their bills this year.
Virgin Media announced this pricing update back in July with an email to customers which stated, "Let’s get to it: after the last four months, and the uncertainty of what’s ahead, there’s no more business as usual. That’s why we aren’t raising your price this year as we normally would.
"This means the price you pay for your current package right now will stay the same for the rest of 2020. There are no catches, and there’s nothing you need to do. In the meantime, we’ll keep investing in our network and doing all we can to make sure you stay connected."
There's no word on when prices will increase, or whether this freeze will remain in place all the way until October 2021, but it does mean nothing will change until the New Year rings in, which is a weight off many customers' minds.

That's 34 times faster than the current UK average and would allow a full HD movie to be downloaded in just 17 seconds. Virgin already offers 1Gbps speeds and this new 2Gbps option is only currently a test but it could show what the firm may launch in the future.
Speaking about the new speeds, Jeanie York, Virgin Media’s Chief Technology and Information Officer, said: “We invest more than £1 billion into our network every year and this innovative trial demonstrates how Virgin Media’s existing future-proof cable network can deliver lightning-fast, multi-gigabit broadband speeds. We stand ready to power our customers’ connectivity needs for whatever comes next.
“We’re leading the charge to make the UK faster and we’re on track for rolling out gigabit broadband speeds across our network by the end of next year. With this next-generation connectivity, our customers can experience the best from their broadband – whether that’s 8K gaming, instant streaming, high quality video calls or uploading files in a flash – all in the same home at the same time.”
