Google Hangouts, Doordash, Nest, Drive and Gmail were all affected. There were also reports that YouTube, the popular video sharing site owned by Google, had been experiencing technical difficulties.
The issue now appears to be fixed and Google services are working as usual.
Users attempting to access certain Google services were met with an error message saying: “The server encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request.
“Please try again in 30 seconds. That’s all we know.”
According to Downdetector, a website which notes when services go offline, the majority of those reporting issues were in North America and east Asia.
There were also clusters of people reporting problems in South America, Australia and New Zealand.
According to technology site Gizmodo the trouble began at about 9pm EDT (2am BST).
Referring to Google services the site reports: “Some, such as Gmail, were taking significantly more time to load while other services like Google’s Play Store and Calendar seemed to be on an endless boot-up loop and wouldn’t load at all.”
Many Google customers took to social media to express their frustration.
