Street Fighter 6 is out today on on PS5 and PS4, and given the incredibly positive review scores, coupled with all of the pre-launch hype, we wouldn't be at all surprised to see it break some records — specifically in terms of fighting games.
In fact, it's already happening.
Indeed, Capcom's latest has just smashed through concurrent player records on Steam. In its immediate release window, it peaked at 65,873 players — a higher peak than any other fighting game. For context, Tekken 7 topped out at 18,966 players (although it launched on PC about a year after its console debut), Mortal Kombat 11 managed 35,147 players, and predecessor Street Fighter V hit 14,783 players. Meanwhile, the more recent Guilty Gear Strive peaked at 31,156 players.
Now, obviously, peak Steam player numbers don't necessarily equate to record sales, but they're usually a very good indicator of a game's overall impact, especially around launch. It's always felt like Capcom's had a blockbuster on its hands with Street Fighter 6, and the signs are already showing.
