If you love all things Apple then you might want to clear your diary tomorrow night. The US technology giant is hosting its yearly WWDC conference from its HQ in Cupertino, California and it's set to be one of its biggest showcases in a very long time.
Rumours are rife that along with revealing all the usual iOS, iPadOS, macOS and watchOS software updates, Apple will also lift the lid on its long-awaited virtual reality (VR) headset. It's thought that Apple has been working on these gadget goggles for some time and it appears they are finally ready to be unleashed on the world.
Like most Apple launches, details remain firmly under wraps but some tech experts believe they will offer super high-resolution 4K visuals which could make them perfect for both work and play. Virtual meetings could feel more like users are in the room with colleagues and gaming is sure to be a big selling point of the device with titles feeling fully immersive.
A mixed reality function could also provide users with images, information and data that will be overlayed on top of the real world around them.
Then there’s the design with some reports suggesting that Apple will bring curved glass to its headset to make it more comfortable to wear.
It’s currently unclear how they will be powered but it's likely that the firm's impressive silicon will be used to bring pixel-packed graphics to those who place them on their head.
Another thing we'll find out soon is whether users will need to link them to phones and tablets to watch movies and play games or if content and apps can be installed directly onto the device itself. It all sounds pretty exciting although the rumoured $3,000 (£2,500) price tag might be a slight sticking point.
Full details will be revealed tomorrow night from 6pm and Mirror Online will be bringing you all the news and gossip live from the event.
As we mentioned earlier, WWDC won't just be about VR. We're also expecting Apple to announce full details about its upcoming software releases which could include iOS 17.
Some other news could offer a first look at the long-awaited MacBook Air 15-inch and there’s bound to be plenty of additional surprises. Things kick off from 6pm BST.
"WWDC is one of our favourite times of the year at Apple because it’s an opportunity to connect both online and in person with the talented developers from around the globe who make this community so extraordinary,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. “WWDC23 is going to be our biggest and most exciting yet, and we can’t wait to see many of you online and in person at this very special event!”
