In a lengthy blog post, Football Manager developer Sports Interactive has mapped out what the next few years look like for the simulation series on PS5 and other consoles. While this year's Football Manager 24 will be an iteration of the 2022 instalment, Football Manager 25 is being billed as a "true sequel". The studio is talking a pretty big game here, with engine changes, deep dives into technology, and the introduction of women's football.
The most notable difference is Football Manager 25 will run on a new engine: Unity. The switch will grant the team more graphical power as well as better UI tools, which will "dramatically improve the ways you are able to interact with the game, both inside and outside of a matchday". Overall, Football Manager 25 running on Unity will offer a better-looking matchday experience, both on the pitch and the stadium surrounding it. "We’ll also have new technology for Newgens and manager creation which are already looking really promising at this early stage."
In addition, Football Manager 25 will benefit from a new animation tech. You'll actually get to see bits of this in Football Manager 24 with better ball physics and player locomotion, but then the big guns arrive the year after. "Simply put, the way that everything looks and moves will be far more true-to-life than ever before with FM25. This obviously requires considerable investment – but with the aforementioned growth of the studio in recent years, we now have the resource available to ensure both FM24 and FM25 are progressing simultaneously."
And finally, Football Manager 25 will allow you to manage a women's team. "The women's game deserves to be the best it possibly can be when it is released - and the new graphics engine will help deliver that." The studio is partnering with key members of the women's game, which will allow the developer to "deliver the most authentic experience possible".
More details will be shared next year, but between now and then, we have Football Manager 24. While this version will be based on a lot of the same tech, Sports Interactive reveals one big new feature: you can import your Football Manager 23 save into the sequel and continue your career on the touchline. You can then also carry that save over into Football Manager 25. You can read more through here.
