Microsoft has released a new update for the Xbox Cloud Gaming (xCloud) app for Android, which introduces touch controls for the company's Surface Duo, an Android-powered device released last September.
Microsoft's Chief Product Officer, Panos Panay noted that the new update adds touch controls for the Surface Duo, adding a virtual gamepad onto the second screen of the foldable device.
A very cool update goes live for #SurfaceDuo customers today! Working with @Xbox we've put touch controls on to the second screen. More than 50 games are available to play with touch for @xboxGamePass Ultimate Members. pic.twitter.com/ZPIqQZXxS4

Currently, more than 50 games on xCloud support touch controls, including Gears 5, Sea of Thieves, Spiritfarer, and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.
Previously, Surface Duo owners with a subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate were allowed to stream xCloud games on the device by connecting a controller, but the latest update takes full advantage of the Surface Duo's design and makes the use of a controller optional rather than mandatory when playing on this device.
The Verge's Tom Warren also went hands-on with the new touch controls on the Surface Duo, which he notes makes the device "more like a Nintendo 3DS than a mobile phone" thanks to the touch controls and the inclusion of the virtual gamepad.
The new update is now available on the Google Play Store.
