Most of our readers say Google Photos is worth paying for, despite storage changes - 9to5Google
Starting tomorrow, June 1, Google Photos will change forever by ditching the free and unlimited storage that made the service so popular. In a poll, though, most of our readers said Google Photos is worth paying for.
While the end of free, unlimited storage may leave a sour taste for many longtime Google Photos users, it’s easy to see why over 68% of our readers said they’d stick with the service. About 23% said the reason was mainly that switching platforms would be a hassle, but 46% of the nearly 5,000 surveyed said that Google Photos is worth paying for.
Why? Even without unlimited storage, Google’s service really does have a strong value proposition. Photos offers easy cloud storage that works across platforms and integrates some genuinely great features that you won’t find elsewhere. Google offers powerful search, OCR with Lens integration, useful editing tools on mobile, and excellent sharing features, too.
Notably, though, a little over 30% of those surveyed said they’d be switching to another service, over 20% of which are doing so mainly because of the removal of unlimited storage. It’s also rather easy to see where these users are coming from. Google breaking its promise of unlimited storage makes other options look more attractive. Amazon Photos was mentioned by some of our readers since, with Prime, the service offers free and unlimited photo backups. Some users have also taken the time to switch to local backups using physical hardware in their homes. 9to5Toys has a breakdown on how you can do that.

Jersey's big plans for the coming summer News | Less than an hour ago - Jersey Evening Post
The majority of the Island’s summer festivals and events were cancelled last year, as restrictions on large-scale gatherings prevented them from going ahead.
There are fears that a surge of Covid cases associated with the Indian variant could yet derail plans and ministers are said to be monitoring the situation both here and in the UK.
However, with the Island’s vaccination programme progressing, organisers have said they remain ‘confident’ ahead of what is hoped will be a return to normality this summer.
Under the government’s current roadmap for easing Covid restrictions, large-scale gatherings will be permitted from 14 June.
Earlier this year the Barclays Jersey Boat Show was cancelled, as were the popular UK festivals Glastonbury and Boomtown. However, restrictions on large-scale events in England are due to be lifted on 21 June.
The UK government has been conducting ‘large-crowd event experiments’ to determine whether restrictions can safely be relaxed at events in confined spaces, or whether doing so could lead to a rise in cases.
In Liverpool, 5,000 people gathered for a concert, 6,000 went to two rave-style events and 400 delegates attended a conference.
So, as long as the restrictions are lifted as scheduled, what is planned for Jersey this summer?
- Good Vibrations Festival – Saturday 19 June
The surf and music festival is held annually in St Ouen’s Bay and is due to feature a 1980s-themed surf contest, live bands and DJs, beach five-a-side football, mental-health workshops and an evening event at the Watersplash nightclub with live bands and DJs.
Organiser Jake Powell said: ‘It would be fitting that our event, which raises money for mental-health charity Mind Jersey and is all about good vibes, would kick-start a summer of events following the year or so we have had.
‘We are paying close attention to the government’s advice but with the event being outdoors, hopefully we will be good to go. The after-party tickets have now sold out and it is clear everyone needs that release this summer and to get out and enjoy themselves.’
- Wonky Festival – Saturday 17 July and Sunday 18 July
The two-day music festival is due to take place at Les Mielles Golf Course in St Ouen’s Bay and feature house, techno and drum and bass DJs.
Acts are due to include drum and bass performers DJ Hype, Metrik and MC General Levy. There will also be a number of house and techno DJs, including Hot Since 82 and a live-stream performance from world-renowned DJ Carl Cox.
Organiser JP Anquetil said: ‘In 2019 we held a one-day event with 3,500 people. This time we have spread the event over two days and reduced the numbers to 2,000 in order to help overcome any potential Covid obstacles.
‘All our stages will be open-air this year instead of having tents or marquees. We have also only booked DJs from the UK so that it is easy for them to get over as long as everything remains green.’
- Sark Jersey Challenge – Saturday 31 July
This relay swimming event features teams of two to six people, with participants taking it in turns to swim a leg from Sark to Jersey.
Simon O’Donoghue, one of the organisers, said: ‘We are all ready to go this year. We have been given permission from all the relevant authorities and will be raising money for Dementia Jersey.
‘Sea swimming has become so popular throughout the pandemic. We have had interest from over 100 swimmers so far and have teams entering from England, Ireland and Holland.’
- Havre des Pas Seaside Festival – Saturday 31 July and Sunday 1 August
The free festival at Havre des Pas is due to return this year after a three-year break with live music, food stalls, fairground rides, arts and crafts stalls and children’s entertainment.
Organiser Jason Maindonald said: ‘This will be the first time the event has run since 2018 and we are confident it will go ahead. Islanders and tourists need events in order to enjoy their summer.
‘Hopefully most of the Island will be vaccinated by then and so we are hoping to have our usual format. However, we have plenty of room on the beach to space things out if needs be.’
- Jersey International Air Display – Thursday 9 September
The Red Arrows are due to return to the skies over Jersey in September to headline this iconic local event. The world-renowned aerobatic display team missed the 2017 and 2019 shows, and the 2020 Air Display was cancelled due to pandemic restrictions.
St Helier Deputy Mike Higgins, who organises the event, said so far things were looking good for this year’s display.
‘We are confident the event, which is free for all, will go ahead and we are hoping to bring some new planes and acts over this year in order to put on a good day out, which the public deserve,’ he said.
‘We are hoping to create spaces on the westbound lane of the Avenue so that people can watch the Air Display from their cars and we want to modify the display line so people can watch from the beach.
‘We are also currently looking for sponsors to help support the event.’
- Jersey International Motoring Festival – Friday 10 September, Saturday 11 September and Sunday 12 September
The largest annual motoring event in the Channel Islands, this event features classic-car showings and displays, a moonlight sprint, the Westmount hill climb, an active-arena vehicle demonstration, live music and food stalls.
Terry Gorvel, one of the organisers, said: ‘We are hoping to run our full programme as normal. We are just waiting to hear from the Bailiff’s Panel [which gives permission for large events].
‘We usually have up to 150 vehicles involved in the event and as many as 8,000 spectators. Lots of people from abroad tend to visit for the weekend, so we are hoping they can get over, depending on travel restrictions.’
He added: ‘The Covid situation is looking positive as restrictions continue to ease and more people receive their vaccine. Hopefully we can enjoy a summer of events and celebrate many of the amazing vehicles on show.’
- Battle of Flowers ‘Fantasy of Light’ moonlight parades
Two planned events that have been cancelled are the Battle of Flowers moonlight parades. The organisers had hoped to run two moonlight parades in an adapted format but have confirmed that they would not be going ahead.
Event director Jackie Donald said: ‘We have monitored, assessed and sought to mitigate the constraints and uncertainties involved in staging the parades and now reluctantly conclude it would be irresponsible to press on, and to risk the longer-term financial viability of our organisation without the ability to underwrite and to offset the potential, substantial economic losses associated with a last-minute cancellation that may be necessary if there are changes in public-health policies.’
The event board said the Indian variant could impact the number of people allowed to attend events and that they therefore could not commit to holding the Battle of Flowers in any capacity this year.
Economic Development Minister Lyndon Farnham said: ‘The Battle of Flowers is a long-standing Jersey tradition and a much-loved community event in our island.
‘It is also a highlight of the summer tourism calendar that plays a valued role in attracting visitors. We will continue to support Battle and look forward to a successful return in 2022.’

Xiaomi says it can fully charge a phone in eight minutes - Engadget
In the saturated world of smartphones, charging speeds have become another way for manufacturers to stand out from the crowd. Records have been smashed and milestones achieved by companies jostling for attention. Today, China's Xiaomi has put its new fast charging system to the test and beaten world records in wired and wireless charging in the process, according to Engadget Chinese. Using its new Hyper Charge tech on a modified M11 Pro with a 4,000 mAh battery, Xiaomi says it brought the handset from 0 to a 50 percent charge in 3 minutes and 23 seconds, and to a full charge in just 8 minutes over a 200W wired connection. In its 120W wireless demonstration, it took 7 minutes to reach half capacity and 15 minutes to hit 100 percent.
Offering some extra insight into the controlled demo, Chinese bloggers briefed on the tech said it was conducted using a GaN charger (originally bundled with an 80W version) and a new dual-coil wireless charger. The modified phone itself uses a 10C graphene battery, they added. Before you get too excited, though, there's still no word on when the Hyper Charge tech will go into mass production.
This isn't the first time Xiaomi has touted its world-beating charging speeds. Significantly, the latest breakthrough marks a major upgrade on the 120W wired charging on the Mi 10 Ultra, which can fully juice up the phone in 23 minutes. The company also previously revealed that it could wirelessly charge a modified version of the Mi 10 Pro over 80W in 19 minutes.
Not to be left behind, Xiaomi's rivals have also shown off their charging chops: Vivo has demonstrated its 120W fast charger fully charging a gaming phone with a 4,000 mAh battery in 15 minutes. And Oppo — which licenses its fast charging tech to OnePlus — charged a 4,000mAh in 20 minutes with a 125W system and in 30 minutes using its 65W wireless AirVOOC tech.

Gaza conflict: Instagram changes algorithm after alleged bias - BBC News
Instagram is changing the way it showcases content after being accused of suppressing pro-Palestinian messages during the recent Gaza conflict.
The app had favoured original content in its "stories" feature over existing, re-shared posts, but will now give them equal treatment, it said.
The current system had a "bigger impact than expected" on some types of posts.
But that was an unintended side-effect rather than an attempt to censor any particular viewpoint, Instagram said.
During the recent Gaza conflict, social media platforms were heavily used to spread messages of support on both sides.
Many pro-Palestinian messages were among those widely re-shared - which means they would have received less prominence than original posts under the current system.
A company spokeswoman said the logic for prioritising original posts was that most Instagram users had more stories to follow than time to check them - and the company believed people were "more interested in original stories from their closest friends".
"It's also caused people to believe we were suppressing stories about particular topics or points of view. We want to be really clear - this isn't the case," she said.
"This applied to any post that's re-shared in stories, no matter what it's about."
Instagram has seen an increase in how many people are re-sharing posts in general, the platform said - and is now acknowledging that posts not "getting the reach people expect them to" is "not a good experience".
The spokeswoman also said the company had seen this issue over a long period of time, and it was not solely a reaction to the recent controversy.
Bias allegations
The change follows a number of weeks in which some users - and employees - questioned how Facebook handled posts about the Gaza conflict on its own site and on apps it owns such as Instagram.
Buzzfeed News reported on internal strife about the way Palestinian-related content often had warnings attached, while the Financial Times reported that a group of up to 50 employees had been involved in raising concerns about supposed suppression of pro-Palestinian content.
Many of the issues are believed to have been caused by large-scale automated moderation, rather than deliberate attempts by individuals to restrict content, reports said.
Instagram said this newly announced shift towards equal weighting of original posts and re-shared stories will happen over time, rather than being an instant change.
"We still think people want to see more original stories, so we're looking at other ways to focus stories on original content through things like new creative tools," it added.

Google could delete your Gmail, Photos and Drive! New rules start tomorrow - Express
"If you're inactive for 2 years (24 months) in Gmail, Drive or Photos, we may delete the content in the product(s) in which you're inactive. If you exceed your storage limit for 2 years, we may delete your content across Gmail, Drive and Photos," the firm said.
The other thing to note is that the new rules come into force on June 1 2021 meaning nothing will be deleted until at least June 1 2023.
If you haven't touched your Photos for Gmail for a long time, Google will inform you a number of times before hitting the delete button so users shouldn't lose any content without hearing about it first.
Along with Google now being able to remove content, there's another big change that comes into force from tomorrow as well.
Until now, Google Photos users have been able to upload endless pictures to the cloud without having to pay a penny for the privilege.

Two Point Campus Appears On Microsoft Store, And It Looks Rather Bonkers - Nintendo Life
Two Point Hospital has proven to be quite a success, luring in players with nostalgia for the classic Theme Hospital alongside younger gamers that simply enjoy the goofy customisation and fun times it offers. It also has SEGA on publishing duty, which has no doubt helped developer Two Point Games to keep working on all those DLCs - a Jumbo Edition recently arrived at retail for Switch.
Now, courtesy of the most useful of resources for learning about new games - accidental Microsoft Store listings - we know what's next from the studio. Two Point Campus has appeared in that listing, and though there's no release date the likelihood is that it's not too far away. It is worth noting that this doesn't confirm a Switch version, but considering the popularity of Two Point Hospital on the system a port seems like a reasonable bet.
As the name suggests you'll be creating and running a University, but of course there'll be twists to the formula. Part of the description and a couple of screens are below.
Rather than typical academic fare, students in Two Point County enjoy a range of wild and wonderful courses: from Knight School (hey, we all have to learn jousting at some point in our lives), to the salivatory Gastronomy, where your students will build mouth-watering concoctions like giant pizzas and enormous pies.
Take advantage of the opportunity to spend way more time with the little people in your university. The academic year begins with a summer break, giving you enough time to get everything looking great before your students move in.
Build libraries, hire the best staff (from eccentric professors to madcap researchers), kit your campus out with the best courses and watch the academic potential of your students get unlocked!
But it’s not just work hard. Get to know your students, explore their individual personalities, wants and needs. Keep them happy with clubs, societies, gigs.
Here's hoping it's not too far away, and that perhaps this time the Switch can get its version around the same time as the game's launch elsewhere. Let us know what you think in the comments!

A New Nintendo Switch Pro listing has been spotted on Amazon - VG247
By Dom Peppiatt
30 May 2021 17:04 GMT
A product listing for the New Nintendo Switch Pro appeared briefly on Amazon Mexico, fuelling rumors that the Japanese platform holder will announce a new hardware model soon.
Twitter user Alphabeat replied to popular games Twitter account Wario 64 with a screenshot supposedly taken from Amazon Mexico, showing an empty listing for a console called the New Nintendo Switch Pro (thanks, VGC).
The listing has since been removed. Could this simply have been a placeholder page, or did someone over at Amazon Mexico accidentally reveal more than they should have a touch too soon? For what it’s worth, we’ve seen Amazon Mexico share images and products ahead of time before – the existence of Spyro Reignited Trilogy came from the retailer, as well as the listing for Luigi’s Mansion 3.
I just find this on Amazon Mexico 👀 pic.twitter.com/lGa6ViQL3V

Of course, Nintendo hasn’t made any official announcements about a new Nintendo Switch of any kind.
Earlier this week, we saw a new report that suggests that the next Nintendo Switch model will begin production in July 2021, and see a retail release by September.
The information in the report lined up nicely with previous suggestions that the new Switch model will use a 7-inch 720p rigid OLED panel – an improvement over the current Switch’s 6.2-inch LCD panel – and will be capable of providing 4K graphics when docked into a TV.
We’ve been hearing reports about a new Switch model for a while now, with rumors about the hardware refresh kicking off as far back as 2018). Nintendo has remained quiet about any future versions of the Switch, though it seems we could be due for a reveal soon if things keep slipping.

‘New Nintendo Switch Pro’ listing spotted on Amazon - Video Games Chronicle
A product listing for the ‘New Nintendo Switch Pro’ was briefly spotted on Amazon, amidst reports Nintendo will soon officially announce a new console.
Spotted by Twitter user Alphabeat, the listing was found on Amazon Mexico, although the product name has since been changed.
Although the listing could well be a placeholder unrelated to official product information, Amazon Mexico has previously accurately listed products before their official announcements.

According to a Bloomberg report this week, the new Nintendo Switch model will retail for over $299 and replace the existing flagship model.
It claims the redesigned hardware will be announced ahead of E3 2021, which takes place from June 12-15, giving developers room to showcase games for the system at the all-digital show.
According to the publication’s sources, Nintendo will begin assembly of the new Switch as soon as July and release the console “in September or October”.
Bloomberg wrote: “Suppliers are confident they can fulfill Nintendo’s orders despite the ongoing chip shortages. Its production lines are better prepared for the potential component shake-up and the parts Nintendo is using are subject to less competition than those in its rivals’ more powerful consoles.”
Nintendo reportedly declined to comment on the latest report.
The upcoming Switch hardware update – dubbed ‘Switch Pro’ by analysts – will reportedly feature Nvidia’s DLSS technology and an improved screen.
According to another recent Bloomberg report, Switch Pro will include a new 7-inch Samsung OLED screen, as opposed to the 6.2-inch and 5.5-inch LCD screens of the current standard model and the Switch Lite respectively.
Nintendo launched a blue version of the Switch Lite console earlier this month.

Switch Pro Rumours Intensify As New Retailer Listing Appears Online - Nintendo Life
It's been an interesting week on the Nintendo front, with a Bloomberg report suggesting the rumoured "Switch Pro" will be revealed before E3 begins. According to the same source, it's expected to be in the hands of consumers by September or October.
If this wasn't already enough excitement, adding fuel to the fire is the discovery of a new retailer listing for the rumoured device, this time by Amazon Mexico on Friday. The website's page mentioned a "New Nintendo Switch Pro", but it wasn't long before it was taken down.
It's still unclear if this listing was legitimate or not, but the fact it was removed not long after its discovery also raised some questions. As highlighted on social media, Amazon Mexico has been responsible for past leaks such as the Spyro Reignited Trilogy ahead of schedule.
The name featured in this listing has led to speculation about the title of the rumoured system and also jokes like this:
A separate story following on from Bloomberg's report has suggested the Switch Pro will offer a "surface style" tabletop flap, USB 3.0, and ethernet connectivity. What do you make of this listing and all of the othe "Switch Pro" rumours circulating this week? What would you even call a new Nintendo Switch? Vote in our poll and leave a comment down below.

Destruction AllStars is adding bots to make up for low player numbers online - Video Games Chronicle
PlayStation 5 exclusive Destruction AllStars will soon be getting bots to help players find matches when there aren’t enough opponents online.
The development team at Lucid Games posted the announcement on the game’s Reddit page, as one of the numerous updates being made to the game “further down the road”.
“With a community the size of Destruction AllStars, spread out across the world we do have peak times and low times of player activity for online matchmaking,” the studio’s announcement reads.
“We want to ensure that matches are filled to capacity with as many real players as possible, but when missing X amount of players when queuing for a match, AI bots will take the remaining places.”
The studio does point out that Blitz mode will never have bots, because it’s a competitive mode.
Lucid points out that the game’s peak times are UTC 4pm-10pm on weekdays and UTC 2pm-1am on weekends, suggesting that players trying to play outside those times will struggle to find enough human players to make up the numbers.
Other changes being made to the game will include improvements to slams to make them “feel more rewarding and responsive”, the reduction of ‘ghost hits’ and character balancing.
Destruction AllStars was originally going to be a full-price PS5 launch game, until publisher Sony delayed its release by three months and announced it was going to be free to PlayStation Plus members for two months, before being sold for $20.
Sony said this week that it wants to increase its foothold in the live service games market.
“We intend to build upon our growing experience and ambition in the games as a service space to complement our continued strength in the narrative-led titles that PlayStation fans know and love,” PlayStation boss Jim Ryan said on Thursday
VGC’s 2/5 Destruction AllStars review said the game was lacking in compelling content at launch.
“Out of the 4 modes available at launch, 2 of them feel redundant and unbalanced,” our critic said. “The single-player content is slim and if you want even a crumb more, you’ll have to pay, which leaves Destruction Allstars feeling like a clumsy, hollow product whose fun moments go by in a blur.”
The combination of underwhelming reviews and a continued scarcity of PS5 consoles out in the wild are likely contributing to the low online player counts the game is experiencing.

Twitter is working on more tweet reactions, similar to Facebook - GSMArena.com news - GSMArena.com
Twitter is apparently looking into implementing richer reaction option on its platform. The insider info comes courtesy of Jane Manchun Wong - the same researcher that has recently been tipping the internet about other Twitter features, like its verification program, Tip Jar and “Blue” paid subscription. There is even a glimpse of how these new reactions might look like. Currently only the "Hmm" and "Haha" reactions have proper icons. "Cheer" and "Sad" just use the "Like" icon.
Twitter is working on Tweet Reactions view:
“Likes”, “Cheer”, “Hmm”, “Sad”, “Haha”
The icons for the Cheer and Sad reactions are WIP and shown as the generic heart one at the moment https://t.co/ZCBhH8z7JR pic.twitter.com/dGqq1CzIis
— Jane Manchun Wong (@wongmjane) May 28, 2021
Apparently, the feature has been in testing for at least a couple of weeks now, which comes as no surprise, given that on a platform like Twitter any form of new user interaction needs to be considered very carefully. There is always the possibility for something to be used for bullying or harassment and lead to a sticky situation.
Twitter has been on sort of a feature expansion spree lately, with such new additions like paid Super Follows and the Communities functionality. Just this month, Twitter also opened-up its voice-only Spaces feature to more user, while also introducing paid Ticketed Spaces. An interesting and ongoing string of cautious, yet pretty ambitious moves overall.

Former Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn showcases her new darker locks as she enjoys a night out in Manchester with friends
Published: | Updated:
Katie McGlynn wowed as she showed off her brand new dark locks while heading out on a night out with friends.
The former Coronation Street star, 27, looked stylish as she enjoyed a night out at BLVD in Manchester on Saturday night.
Katie looked glamorous in a black vest top featuring a scooped neckline with pencil-thin straps.

Katie coupled her top with a striking pair of zebra-print bottoms tied off with a black and gold Gucci belt.
On her feet, Katie wore a pair of black heels, decorated with black balls of fluff over the toe straps.
From her right shoulder, Katie carried a small black handbag suspended on a silver chain link.
It comes after she said that men expect her to be her late Coronation Street character Sinead Tinker and are 'surprised' when they realise she's different.

The soap star left the ITV soap in 2019 after her character Sinead died following a heartbreaking cervical cancer storyline.
Yet despite being off the cobbles for more than a year, Katie admitted that it has impacted her dating life as people tend to contact her over her Corrie fame.
Talking to The Sun, Katie insisted that she doesn't want to join any online apps as it 'doesn't feel natural' to her after she briefly used them in the past.
She told the publication: 'I can't tell if I like somebody over a screen, and a lot of people who would contact me would do so because I was on Corrie.
'Most of them would be expecting Sinead Tinker and not me, Katie McGlynn. They'll be surprised to learn we're not the same people. I mean, I'm alive for a start.'

Katie went on to reflect over the past year as just weeks after she left Coronation Street, the coronavirus pandemic started with the TV industry forced to postponed, delay and shut down production during the first lockdown.
The soap star said: 'Because I’ve not been massively busy, you do question the other parts of your life. And then you’re like, "Oh well, I’ve not found Mr Right yet. But we’re in a pandemic, so I can’t".
Katie admitted that it would 'be good' if her dating life was complete but she's not 'desperate' and knows it will happen, adding she would rather be alone than with someone who 'isn't right'.

WhatsApp won't limit accounts for users who don't accept its new privacy policy - Engadget
You'll be able to continue using your WhatsApp account as is even if you don't accept the new privacy policy it rolled out earlier this month — for now, at least. The Facebook-owned chat service wrote in a support article before the policy took effect on May 15th that it was going to progressively limit the features you can access until you accept the new terms. Now, it looks like WhatsApp has decided to change its approach in hopes of keeping its current users. It told TheNextWeb in a statement:
"Given recent discussions with various authorities and privacy experts, we want to make clear that we currently have no plans to limit the functionality of how WhatsApp works for those who have not yet accepted the update. Instead, we will continue to remind users from time to time about the update as well as when people choose to use relevant optional features, like communicating with a business that is receiving support from Facebook."
In its updated support page, WhatsApp said it has no plans for the reminders to become persistent, so we're assuming they'll pop up occasionally and not often enough to be an inconvenience. The messaging service first introduced the updated privacy policy quite abruptly back in January, addressing the expansion of its business messaging tools and its new shopping features. Facebook plays a role in enabling those features, and apparently, your business interactions on WhatsApp could influence the ads you see on its parent company's website.
A lot of users understood that as WhatsApp forcing users to share more data with Facebook, resulting in a massive backlash that prompted the company to postpone the policy's rollout. After citing "confusion and misinformation" around the updated policy, WhatsApp decided to re-introduce it in February and to give people more time to review the changes by displaying a banner within the app providing more information. The service initially warned that it would prevent you from using the app altogether unless you agree to the terms. That's clearly no longer the case, though WhatsApp could still change its stance in the future.

Update your Chrome browser now or miss a serious speed boost from Google - Express
Discussing the latest browser improvements, Thomas Nattestad, Chrome Product Manager, said: "An important component of delivering a fast browser is fast JavaScript execution. In Chrome, that job is done by the V8 engine which executes over 78 years worth of JavaScript code on a daily basis.
"In M91 Chrome is now up to 23% faster with the launch of a new Sparkplug compiler and short builtin calls, saving over 17 years of our users' CPU time each day! Sparkplug is a new JavaScript compiler that fills the gap between needing to start executing quickly and optimising the code for maximum performance. Short builtin calls optimise where in memory we put generated code to avoid indirect jumps when calling functions."
Chrome is designed to automatically update, with new patches added to your browser in the background. However, if you haven't closed down your browser in some time you might see a pending patch that needs to be installed. If you have a pending update you will see this on the right-hand side of the Chrome omnibox (aka URL bar).

Google Photos and Gmail users get an upgrade they'll wonder how they ever did without - Express
Google has just announced a very nice upgrade to its Gmail and Photos services that will make much it much easier to save images when they arrive in your inbox. It seems bizarre that Google has taken so long to come up with such a simple change but it will save users of the platforms a whole lot of hassle and time. Google says that, from now on, when you get a photo attachment in a Gmail message, you can save it directly to Google Photos with a new "Save to Photos" button.
You’ll see it next to the existing “Add to Drive” button on the attachment and while previewing the image attachment. The US tech firm is rolling this upgrade out from today with all users, including those with free and Workspace accounts, expected to see the changes in the coming days and weeks.
It's worth noting that it only works if an image is sent in a JPEG format but considering this is how many photos are transferred across the web, most people should be able to take advantage.
In a post on its blog, Google said: "This new feature frees you from having to download photo attachments from Gmail messages in order to then manually back them up to Google Photos."
Although that's good news about Googe Photos there is an update coming next month that users might not be quite so happy about.
Until now, Google Photos users have been able to upload endless pictures to the cloud without having to pay a penny for the privilege.
But that's all changing. Unfortunately, from June 1, 2021 onwards, all images – no matter what quality you're uploading – will now eat into that 15GB allowance. Once users have hit that limit, they will then have to pay to add more storage via Google's One service.
Prices for extra space start from £1.59 per month for 100GB, £2.49 for 200GB or £7.99 for a whopping 2TB. Explaining more about the change, Google said: "From 1 June 2021, high-quality and express-quality content will count towards your Google Account storage. Once you've reached your storage limit, you can either subscribe to Google One (where available) for additional storage or delete content in order to continue with the free storage option in Photos."

Little Nightmares is currently free to keep on Steam - VG247
By Stephany Nunneley
28 May 2021 20:39 GMT
Little Nightmares can be yours for nothing on Steam.
The rather dark and whimsical Little Nightmares is currently 100% off on Steam for the next few days.
It stars Six, a little girl trapped in a prison called The Maw where every room is a puzzle. Six’s mission is to escape, evading a particular enemy who probably wants to eat her.
As you progress on your journey, you will explore a disturbing dollhouse offering a prison to escape from and a playground full of secrets.
The game won at The Games Awards 2016 for Best Independent Game and took home four BAFTA Awards for Original Property, Game Design, Artistic Achievement, and Narrative.
It was such a hit that a sequel was developed. Released on February 11, the sequel stars a young boy named Mono, who with the help of Six, is trying to escape Little Nightmares 2’s horrific world. Six is AI-controlled this time out, and you’ll need to work with her to solve puzzles and evade terrible creatures.
At certain points in the game, Mono will also be able to wield a range of items picked up in the environment. There will be times when stealth remains the best option, and there will also be times when you will need to do a bit of thinking to save yourself and Six.
So, if you are interested in LN2, you should definitely give the first game a download, and why not? It’s free.

Far Cry 6 shows off wacky guns and guerilla tactics coming on October 7th - Rock Paper Shotgun
As promised, Ubisoft have shown off some proper running and gunning in their upcoming Far Cry 6. We got a lot of the grim side of the revolution in its reveal trailer but today's video shows off some of the levity—from a pet crocodile, to snarky one-liners to, yeah, that gun that shoots Macarena CDs. You'll have options beyond guns as well, with a bit of stealth and deception to engage in. You can spot all that, and an introduction to protagonist Dani Rojas down here in the new video.

Far Cry 6 lets you have a pet attack crocodile, and 100 other things we spotted - Eurogamer.net
Here's Ian with 22 minutes of footage.
The delayed Far Cry 6 has re-remerged after a few months in the wilderness - and Ian has an extensive new deep dive video, below, delving into its vast world and new mechanics.
Today also brings a new (and hopefully final) release date. Far Cry 6 will launch on 7th October for PC via the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Stadia and Amazon Luna.
Watch the full rundown of 101 things Ian spotted below, including a full tour of the region's wildlife - and yes, a crocodile named Guapo who wears a shirt and can be called on to attack your enemies. (Of course, you can pet the crocodile.)
One new feature worth flagging that will aid your stealth - if you choose to go that route - is the ability to holster your weapon and wander around listening in to conversations without raising suspicion.
There are locations such as checkpoints and flak cannon outposts you'll need to conquer, and the series' traditional outposts to beat. Named as FND Bases, these outposts are set in places such as abandoned schools, TV stations and farms.
Far Cry 6 was officially announced in July 2020, and was originally intended to arrive in February. There's no word today on a new release date - presumably that'll come at the next Ubisoft Forward presentation, to be held during E3 week on Saturday, 12th June.
As previously revealed, you'll play as guerrilla fighter Dani Rojas - who like Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Eivor can be played as either a woman or man. Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian's Giancarlo Esposito stars as the game's dictator antagonist Anton Castillo.
