Grand Theft Auto players have been hit by a number of GTA 5 Online server issues recently, which came after GTA V was - incredibly - made free to download. On Thursday May 14 Fortnite makers Epic Games launched the latest Mega Sale for their online digital store, and the best offer was to do with Grand Theft Auto 5. For a whole week GTA V will be free to download from the Epic Games Store, and the huge demand for the offer saw the site's servers go down as soon as the deal went live.
And in the days following the launch of this GTA V free offer there have been a number of widespread issues with Grand Theft Auto 5 Online.
The first of which came on Friday May 15 when Rockstar confirmed there were issues with their Social Club service.
A tweet from the Rockstar Support Twitter account said: "We are aware of an issue resulting in Social Club account verification email delays and are actively working to resolve it.
"Players who have not received their account verification email after 4 hours should resubmit an email verification request."
The Rockstar Games Social Club is tied into the online features of both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, among other titles.
And independent outage monitor Down Detector has registered reports of online issues with both of these titles in the past couple of days.
The worst affected has been GTA Online, with Down Detector stats indicating players have been hit by separate issues for three days in a row.
On Friday May 15, Saturday May 16 and Sunday May 17 Down Detector recorded big spikes in GTA Online down reports.
The most recent of which came at around 7am BST today (Sunday May 17), with downdetector.com seeing a huge increase in Grand Theft Auto Online down reports.
At the peak of this outage Down Detector registered more than 3,000 reports of GTA Online being down.
Out of those affected some 72 per cent of GTA fans were having online play issues while a quarter were hit by Rockstar Social Club problems.
The Down Detector outage map said the GTA Online down issues hit gamers in the UK, US and Europe.
These problems came hot on the heels of another Grand Theft Auto outage which, according to Down Detector, began around 10pm BST on Saturday May 16.
This lasted for several hours, peaking at over 7,000 reports of GTA Online down and came not long after another reported outage earlier that day.
If you need help with GTA Online, or other Rockstar services, the developer has a message on their Service Status page.
It explains how support has been impacted due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The message says: "As part of our efforts to protect the health and safety of our support agents, the following service changes are in effect.
"Call-back and Chat requests for all languages are temporarily suspended.
"Responses to support requests may take longer depending on the issue and available agents.
"As always, we appreciate your patience and understanding."
