Tipster claims that the PlayStation 5 will cost more and perform worse than the Xbox Series X: Resident Evil Village could run at a mere 1080p/60 - Notebookcheck.net

Industry insider and tipster Dusk Golem claimed on a ResetEra thread that Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox Series X would both cost less than the Sony PlayStation 5 and potentially outperform it in multi-platform games Citing developer sources, Dusk Golem further predicted that Resident Evil Village will launch on the PlayStation 5, running at a measly 1080p/60, a far cry from ninth-gen 4K experiences both console makers have been promising.

With the holiday season approach and both consoles set to launch soon, and in the backdrop of impending GPU releases from NVIDIA and AMD in the PC space, these rumors raise questions about exactly how the ninth-gen console war will shape up.

Dusk Golem’s claims that multi-platform games tend to perform worse on the PlayStation 5 have some implications for the console’s hardware architecture. For starters, it might mean that the PS5’ ultra-fast SSD might not matter as much in multi-plat development contexts.

Lower performance could also hint at issues with clockspeed scaling. This has been a potential question ever since Sony revealed that the PlayStation 5 would feature dynamic GPU clock speed scaling.

With the consoles just months away, are we looking at an Xbox One launch situation, where the PlayStation 5 ends up costing more an performing worse? We can’t be sure at present, but the rumor mill suggest that the possibility exists.
