OnePlus teases support for always-on display in OxygenOS 11 - Neowin

Back in May, OnePlus confirmed that it would be bringing the much-requested always-on display feature to OxygenOS for some of its devices. Now, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has teased the arrival of this feature with the upcoming release of OxygenOS 11, in a new tweet.

Pete's tweet is light on details, but OxygenOS 11 for OnePlus devices should be based on Android 11 as OxygenOS 10, which was released last year, was based on Android 10. Since always-on display can have a negative effect on battery life and requires low-level hardware support, OnePlus will only be bringing it to selected devices. The OnePlus 8 series will likely be the first in line to get this feature, but it is unclear if the OnePlus 7/7T will get the feature or not.

OnePlus is also working on bringing a number of other new features to OxygenOS including folder support within the app drawer, fingerprint lock for hiding photos in Gallery, and more.

Google is rumored to release the Android 11 update for Pixel devices on September 8, so it is possible that OnePlus will release the first build of OxygenOS 11 within a few weeks after that. Android 11 comes with a number of new features like Bubbles, granular privacy controls, revamped power menu, and more, which should all make their way to OxygenOS 11 as well.
