Cambridge Audio has announced its first set of noise-cancelling headphones. The Melomania P100 marry a 4cm triple-layer Mylar driver with Class A/B amplification – not Class D! – for 60 hours of runtime from a single charge. That number extends to 100 hours when ANC is turned off. Should the battery run down to zero, a 5-minute charge returns two hours of playback time.
At their Bluetooth-business end, the P100 support SBC, AAC for iPhones and aptX Adaptive for Android users. The inclusion of Qualcomm’s ‘Snapdragon Sound with aptX Lossless‘ chipset means that when a) paired with a similarly-equipped smartphone and b) optimal environmental conditions present, the P100 will relay CD-quality streams losslessly.
For a more reliable way of accessing lossless CD-quality audio and/or hi-res streams (the host smartphone’s SRC notwithstanding), the P100 ship with cables for USB-C to 3.5mm and USB-C to USB-C operation. The accompanying Melomania app offers a 7-band EQ with six presets and the option to switch out the audible feedback to Matt Berry‘s voice.
The P100’s earpads are made from memory foam wrapped in vegan leather and are user-replaceable earpads (a nice touch!); and according to Cambridge Audio, the packaging has been designed to be more environmentally friendly.

Landing in a choice of white or black finishes, the Melomania P100 will sell for £229, €279 or US$279 via Amazon and Cambridge Audio’s website. Shipping begins this month.
