Third "Final Fantasy VII" Remake In 2027? - Dark Horizons

Square Enix

Translated excerpts from interviews published in the newly released “Final Fantasy 7 Remake Ultimania” book have revealed that the final part of the “Final Fantasy VII” remake trilogy may be targeting a 2027 release.

The “Final Fantasy VII Remake” arrived in mid-2020 whilst the second part of the trilogy, “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth,” arrived earlier this year.

In translations from the book, creative director Tetsuya Nomura reportedly says the third game’s main story has already been completed with voice recording to start in the near future.

‘Rebirth’ took around three years to make, quicker than the ‘Remake’ because of both employee retention and no need for a DLC expansion like the remake’s ‘Intergrade’.

With much of the same team also working on the third game, the hope is to complete the final part of the trilogy in a similar timeframe. A 2027 release would also tie into the original game’s 30th anniversary celebrations.

Additionally, series producer Yoshinori Kitase has reportedly raised the possibility of including something “new and important in the game” which didn’t feature in the original, something that Nomura is trying to work out how to deliver. He adds that “it will surely make people happy if they can do it well”.

“Final Fantasy VII Rebirth” sits with a 92/100 on Metacritic and currently sits as the best-reviewed game of 2024 so far.
