The official title for Final Fantasy VII Remake 2 is Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Square Enix has confirmed. Indeed, this isn't a remake anymore — it's almost certainly spiralling off into its own thing, as demonstrated in the trailer above. We imagine that this will be a move that won't go down well with everyone, but we're still interested in seeing how it all unfolds.
We're not sure it's a huge surprise, but Rebirth is going to be a PS5 exclusive. It's targeting a Winter 2023 launch, which means that we're supposed to be getting two blockbuster Final Fantasy titles next year, with Final Fantasy XVI also scheduled.
