The devil is supposed to make work for idle hands but when Britons find themselves with lots of downtime they appear to buy hot tubs and musical instruments and upgrade their home technology.
A study has revealed what people bought to see them through lockdowns, and finds that in many cases they are now regretting those decisions.
In total, households spent more than £6.6 billion on pandemic purchases they no longer use, the research found. Gaming equipment, tools, clothes and home gym items are the most commonly regretted purchases.
Data from the How We Live report, published today, shows that nine out of ten people spent money on “treats” during the pandemic at a collective cost of more than £57.6 billion — or £1,205
