Care minister reminds EU of 'commitments they made' on vaccine exports
As both the EU and the UK stepped up the rhetoric on their row over vaccine exports over the weekend, care minister Helen Whately has said blocking supplies "doesn't do anybody any good".
"I would remind the European Union of the commitments they've made," she told Sky News, urging the bloc to "stand by that commitment".
She called for the EU and the UK to "work together" to maximise vaccine production.
The EU had previously said it would not block vaccine exports to the UK, but this weekend European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen issued an apparent threat following a row with drugmaker AstraZeneca over supplies.
She said the EU has the power to "forbid" exports, adding: "That is the message to AstraZeneca."
