Samsung’s New Galaxy Watch Name Leaks, And It’s A Surprise, Report Claims - Forbes

Samsung’s next Galaxy Watch is almost upon us, likely to land in the next couple of months, if not sooner. Its exact name has just been revealed, according to a report in MySmartPrice and picked up by PhoneArena.com.

We’ve already seen the first glimpse of the design of the watch and have had clues to the return of one much-loved feature from the first Galaxy Watch (read about the design and the feature here).

But, until now, it’s been assumed that the successor to the first Galaxy Watch would be called Samsung Galaxy Watch 2.

I mean, it would make sense, right? But it seems that the next watch is going to be called Samsung Galaxy Watch3.

That’s according to the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) in Thailand, where the new watch has just been going through regulatory approval. The filing has the same product code number as found elsewhere which indicates it’s the same product that we’re talking about.

Note that there’s no space between the word Watch and the number 3. I’m not being overly pedantic here, I think it’s a clue as to why the number 3 is there at all.

Because although there was no Samsung Galaxy Watch 2, there was a Galaxy Watch Active, followed by the Galaxy Watch Active2, with the same predilection to connect the final word to the numeral.

In other words, I think Samsung is seeing this watch as a successor to the Watch Active2 and has merely taken the word Active out of the name.

This might indicate that Samsung is seeing the Active element as so central to the watch that it doesn’t need the word in the title any more.

There’s not much more revealed in the certification apart from the confirmation that it will come in a 41mm size, along with the 45mm option certified by the FCC recently.

Also confirmed is the fact that an LTE version is available, presumably alongside a model with Wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

It’s expected the Watch3 will be revealed alongside the next Note handset in August, rumored to be on August 5.

Other details, like the much-hoped-for return of a physical rotating bezel, titanium finish model alongside stainless-steel and aluminum options, 8GB of storage space, GPS and waterproofing to 5ATM are all predicted as well.
