In an unusually blunt intervention, even in the cut-throat world of high-tech, Mark Zuckerberg, the boss of Meta Platforms, has taken a personal swipe at Apple’s rival new mixed-reality headset.
Apple’s Vision Pro made headlines this month as celebrities including Casey Neistat, a YouTube personality, and T-Pain, a singer and songwriter, wore it in public, with the “passthrough” feature allowing them to see their surroundings while using it.
Passthrough is used in most recent mixed-reality headsets and allows people to see beyond the screen strapped to their head. It uses cameras on the outside of the headset to give users a live, high-definition video feed of their surroundings so that they can wear a headset while walking or exercising.
