WhatsApp warning as service will stop working for some iPhone and Android users - Daily Record

WhatsApp users have been issued a three-day warning as dozens of different Android and iPhone devices will no longer be able to support the messaging service.

The change is due to come into place on December 31, 2022, and is part of the tech giant's latest round of updates. This will mostly impact those who use 47 of the older devices that do not have operating systems capable of hosting WhatsApp's latest features.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo, major brands including Samsung, LG and Sony will be affected, as well as several Apple iPhone models.

The messaging platform is currently used by 40 million people in the UK and around two billion worldwide, however those with older devices may not have it going into 2023.

The list of affected devices is as follows:

On its FAQ page, WhatsApp said: "Devices and software change often, so we regularly review what operating systems we support and make updates.

"To choose what to stop supporting, every year we, like other technology companies, look at which devices and software are the oldest and have the fewest number of people still using them.

"These devices also might not have the latest security updates, or might lack the functionality required to run WhatsApp."
