Silent Hill 2 PS5 Remake Announced as a Console Exclusive - Push Square

The Silent Hill 2 remake is official, and Bloober Team is the developer leading production. It's a console exclusive for 12 months, launching on PS5 and PC. The announcement trailer features many clips of protagonist James Sunderland and famous enemy Pyramid Head. No release date has been shared.

Masahiro Ito and Akira Yamaoka are helping Bloober Team with development, which is aiming to modernise the gameplay and introduce an over the shoulder camera, replacing the more zoomed out look of the PS2 classic. Creative director of The Medium, Mateusz Lenart, is the lead director of the Silent Hill 2 remake.

A selection of official screenshots can be viewed below.

On the PlayStation Blog, it's explained the camera change is designed to "immerse players even deeper into the game, make them feel like they are a part of this unreal world, and deliver them a more visceral experience across the board". The combat system is also being rebuilt, and certain set pieces will be changed. Unreal Engine 5 is being used to remake the game.

"Twenty-one years have passed since the release of Silent Hill 2 for PlayStation 2 and the big leap in technology allows us to be even closer – at least in some aspects – to how Team Silent would have desired their game to be back in 2001. Thanks to state-of-the-art motion capture sessions, we can deliver the best facial expressions in the series’ history and show a wide range of emotions even before a character speaks a single word."
