St. Louis Cardinals vs. Atlanta Braves - 5/25/19 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction - Sports Chat Place

Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals meet in game two of their three game weekend set in MLB action from Busch Stadium on Saturday night.

The Atlanta Braves will look to keep their momentum going after a 3rd straight win, picking up a 5-2 win in game two on Friday. Dansby Swanson had a pair of home runs and three RBIs while Freddie Freeman added a solo homer, going 2 for 4 at the dish. Brian McCann went 3 for 4 while Ronald Acuna Jr., Nick Markakis, Ozzie Albies, Charlie Culberson and Mike Foltynewicz each added a base hit as well in the victory. Foltynewicz got the win, his first of the season, to improve to 1-3 after allowing an unearned run on five hits while striking out seven over six innings of work. Mike Soroka will start game two and is 5-1 with a 1.01 ERA and 41 strikeouts this season. This will be Soroka’s second career start against St. Louis.

The St. Louis Cardinals will look to bounce back after dropping the series opener on Friday. Matt Carpenter and Harrison Bader each went 2 for 4 with an RBI with Carpenter hitting a solo home run while Bader had a double. Paul Goldschmidt also went 2 for 4 while Yadier Molina added a base hit of his own as well in the losing effort. Miles Mikolas took the loss, falling to 4-5 on the year after allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out nine over seven innings of work. Dakota Hudson will start game two and is 3-3 with a 4-40 ERA and 36 strikeouts this season. This will be Hudson’s first career start against Atlanta.

Atlanta is 5-1 in Soroka’s last 6 starts and 7-2 in their last 9 games overall while the under is 5-2-1 in their last 8 road games against a right-handed starter. St. Louis is 1-4 in their last 5 home games and 5-14 in their last 19 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. Atlanta is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams and 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams in St. Louis.

St. Louis and the even/plus money at home is worth a look, but the problem is that on the other side, you have Soroka pitching for Atlanta, who hasn’t allowed more than one earned run and two runs overall in any of his starts this season, including seven shutout innings against these same Cardinals just a couple of starts ago. Hudson has been pitching okay lately, but he’s still unpredictable and the results are up and down with him on the mound. Atlanta’s offense is finally coming around too, so getting Soroka at this price feels like a gift, and it’s one I’ll gladly accept. Give me the Braves on Saturday.
