Amazon offers millions of best-selling Kindle books for £0 ...but incredible giveaway comes with a catch - GB News

There's never been a better time to be a bookworm — with millions of Kindle books, magazines, and audiobooks available to download and read free on Amazon right now. For a limited time, a three-month subscription to Kindle Unlimited costs just £0.

Cancel anytime and you'll pay nothing to download and read millions of bestsellers, literary fiction, non-fiction books, magazines, and more.

Usually £28.47, this incredible discount is only around until 11.59pm tonight (July 17, 2024).

Amazon has slashed the cost of Kindle Unlimited as part of its blockbuster Prime Day sale, an annual site-wide sale with hundreds of thousands of deals for Amazon Prime members, that'll take place July 16-17 this year.

The catch? You'll need to be an Amazon Prime member to be able to take advantage of the deal. Failing that, you should sign up for a 30-day free trial of the membership scheme to unlock the Kindle Unlimited deal.

Pay nothing for three months and download from the vast catalogue of millions of must-read novels, non-fiction, magazines, and audiobooks included in the Netflix-like Kindle Unlimited subscription. Cancel anytime and you'll pay nothing

AMAZON | GBN

This isn't only a requirement of this Kindle Unlimited offer, but for all discounts in the Prime Day sale.

As the name suggests, the sale is reserved for Amazon Prime members. Without a subscription to this £8.99 monthly scheme, you'll be forced to pay the RRP for products included in the sale and miss out on the three-month free trial for Kindle Unlimited.

The same condition also applies to a five-month free trial to Amazon's Music Unlimited service, which offers a similar experience to Spotify Premium, TiDAL, and Apple Music, with 100 million songs to stream, curated playlists, and ad-free access to some of the biggest podcasts on the planet.

This brilliant deal will save you a whopping £54.95 in subscription fees.

You won't need to own a Kindle to take advantage of this brilliant offer.

Kindle books are available to read on your iPhone, iPad, laptop, Android phone or tablet, as well as a dedicated Kindle e-reader from Amazon. You can switch between any of these gadgets — handy if you find yourself with a wait but you've left your tablet at home — with reading progress synchronised between all of your devices.

For those who don't know, Kindle Unlimited is a Netflix-like experience with a rotating selection of millions of ebooks, magazines, and audiobooks from Amazon's enormous ebook catalogue.

Kindle Unlimited includes books from a number of bestselling authors, with the catalogue of titles included in the Netflix-like subscription refreshed on a regular basis

AMAZON PRESS OFFICE

Usually £9.49 per month, Kindle Unlimited is one of the pricier subscriptions available from Amazon, which is one of the reasons this is such an incredible saving. In comparison to Kindle Unlimited, its Prime Video service, which rivals the likes of Netflix and Disney+ costs just £5.99.

If you can quickly, you can secure three months of Kindle Unlimited for £0.

This discount is only available for the next few days but will allow you to continue reading from a selection of millions of books until late September 2024.

This generous Prime Day deal offers a saving of £28.48compared with the standard cost for that duration. Cancel any time before the end of the three months and you’ll pay nothing at all.

Amazon usually offers a 30-day free trial for its Kindle Unlimited service, so you'll be able to continue reading digital books, magazines, and a handful of audiobooks from the US retailer for three times as long if you sign up now.

With Kindle Unlimited, you’ll be able to download and read bestsellers from the likes of Colleen Hoover, Matt Brolly, Amanda Prowse, Dean Koontz, Teresa Driscoll, and Melinda Leigh, to name just a few. The complete Harry Potter book series is also bundled as part of the monthly subscription.

Magazines like Cosmopolitan, Grazia, BBC Good Food Magazine, OK!, and Autocar are also included, with new issues available to download and read across any device with the Kindle app.

If you’d rather rest your eyes, Kindle Unlimited includes a limited number of audiobooks to stream from your car infotainment system, Bluetooth speakers, iPhone or Android apps.

Several Kindle models, like the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Oasis, support audio files, so you can connect a pair of wireless earbuds to listen to audiobooks on your ereader.

If you’ve recently taken out a free trial of Kindle Unlimited, you won’t be eligible for the latest promotion. You can check whether your account qualifies for the discount here.

If you can secure a three-month subscription for £0 in the sale, keep in mind that Amazon will automatically renew your subscription at full price unless cancelled at some point during the trial.

OnePlus Pad 2 in for review - GSMArena.com news - GSMArena.com

Say hello to the OnePlus Pad 2 - the global variant of what Chinese customers call the OnePlus Pad Pro.

The back of the tablet comes with a matte finish that is very nice to look at and especially to touch.

In Europe the slate ships with a USB-C to USB-A cable and nothing more. It supports 67W charging but you'd need to supply your own charger.

If you want to unlock the full potential of the OnePlus Pad 2 for productivity, you can buy the $150 Smart Keyboard, which adds a full set of keys and a touchpad, that is twice as big as the OnePlus Pad's keyboard. There's also the $100 Stylo 2, which vibrates.

The keyboard feels premium. It connects via pogo-pins and supports Bluetooth. The keyboard has a 205mAh built-in battery and weighs 504g. Attaching it to the tablet makes the entire thing too heavy even for your lap and we'd say a desk becomes a must.

The Smart Keyboard allows you to adjust the tilt of the display. When you close the tablet with the keyboard, the flap between the two feels a bit flabby and misplaced.

We tested the six-speaker setup of the OnePlus Pad 2 and have to say we're impressed. Coupled with the solid 12.1-inch 2120x3000px IPS LCD, we'd call the OnePlus Pad 2 a winner for media consumption.

It's no surprise that the OnePlus Pad 2 is a smooth performer, given that it packs a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with up to 12GB of RAM.

It employs the same multitasking as the OnePlus Open, which is amazing on the bigger screen.

Finally, the tablet lacks a fingerprint scanner, which isn't ideal. Not so much for security, but if you have multiple accounts on it you'd need to type in passcodes or a PIN each time you unlock it.

That's all the time we have with the OnePlus Pad for now. Stay tuned foe more on it in the following weeks!

The First Descendant 1.0.3 update release date has been announced - Video Gamer

Video Gamer is reader-supported. When you buy through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission. Prices subject to change. Learn more

The First Descendant has been out for a few weeks now and has performed better than most people could have expected. Upon release, it was an immediate hit and its momentum shows little sign of slowing down any time soon. Despite some issues at launch, most of them have been ironed out now and players are enjoying the latest looter shooter to hit the market, with it even performing better than its established competitors.

Since The First Descendant launched, Nexon Games has updated the games many times to ensure players are having the best experience and the latest update is right around the corner and will be landing later this week.

The First Descendant 1.03 Announcement
Image via Nexon Games

In a post on X, Nexon Games announced the 1.0.3 update for The First Descendant, which will come with a period of downtime.

“There will be server maintenance on 7/18 (Thu) from 00:00 – 05:00 PDT. The game will be unavailable during that time. We’ll update you when the maintenance begins and ends, and provide more details in the Hotfix 1.0.3 announcement.”

According to a blog post, the update will “fix game errors” but the developers didn’t elaborate further. But we can expect an extensive list of issues being fixed if the 0.1.2 update is anything to go by which improved PC optimization, as well as fixed many issues in The First Descendant.

So far, The First Descendant has been a massive hit with gamers, reaching 10 million players within its first week and that number has only continued to grow. It is still maintaining a strong active player base, with it consistently beating both Destiny 2 and Warframe when it comes to concurrent players on PC. But it is still being beaten by that pesky banana.

Manor Lords next update will switch over to Unreal Engine 5 and, more importantly, add fishing ponds - Rock Paper Shotgun

I’m calling it now. When, in a “few weeks” according to the developer, fishing ponds come to strategy builder Manor Lords, it will take approximately 45 minutes for some enterprising medieval fintech tinkerer to utterly bork the entire economy, and it will be glorious. What will begin as brave new world of lean protein and previously unseen Omega 3 levels will soon devolve into hordes of beleaguered oxen hauling overburdened carts full of rotting fish carcasses, as hyperinflation looms.

I have beheld the idyllic lake, as shared by Greg ‘Slavic Magic’ StyczeĹ„ on Twizzler, and I see only financial ruin rippling upon its tranquil surface, like a really fucked up lillypad.

Ok, so it’ll probably be fine. As you may have heard recently, updating Manor Lords for the sake of it goes against both StyczeĹ„ and publisher Hooded Horse’s vision for the game. Not every game needs to be "some live-service boom or bust," said Hoody Horsey’s CEO Tim Bender recently, after the game was criticised by Long Dark studio Hinterlands CEO Raphael van Lierop for a lack of updates. We can safely surmise that StyczeĹ„ has deeply considered the impact of throwing fish at his game’s serfs, then.

You may have also noticed how shiny the above lake looks, too, which is likely down to the upcoming engine change slated to also arrive in the upcoming patch. The migration to Unreal Engine 5, hopes Styczeń, will sort out some lingering memory corruption issues, like flickering roads and crashes, via Games Radar.

The initial hype around Manor Lords - that wot led it to sell 2 million copies - has understandably leveled out a bit, but it’s undeniably heartening to hear that Slavic Magic aren’t under pressure to crank out new mecha-ox or hay-based battle passes. “Dev uses early access to work on game at their own pace and player base plays a bit here and there, then and moves on to other games when they’ve had their fill” shouldn’t be an unusual state of affairs in anything but a profoundly sick industry, but them's the no-brakes, I guess.

"Sustainability is something we think about a lot," Bender told our Edwin a few months back, "but usually we think about it in relation to developers. So we're in an interesting situation - we never took money from, like, venture capitalists, or private equity, or international conglomerates, or anything that would put pressure on us. In fact, we even wrote into our bylaws that we can prioritise other things over profits, like artistic integrity and fair treatment.”

Apple Releases First iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 Public Betas - MacRumors

Apple today provided the first betas of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 to public beta testers, bringing the new software to the general public for the first time since the Worldwide Developers Conference in June. Apple has seeded three developer betas so far, and the first public beta includes the same content that's in the third developer beta.

Public beta testers who have signed up for Apple's beta testing program can download the ‌iOS 18‌ and ‌iPadOS 18‌ updates by opening up the Settings app, going to General, tapping into the Software Update section and selecting the ‌iOS 18‌ Public Beta option.

Note that betas can have bugs, battery issues, and other complications, so it is wise to install the software on a secondary device or make a backup in case you need to downgrade back to iOS 17.

‌iOS 18‌ introduces Apple Intelligence, which are AI features deeply integrated into the operating system. Not all functionality is available at this time, but it brings Writing Tools for rewriting, polishing, proofreading, and summarizing text across apps, and you can generate custom images with Image Playground. There are custom emoji available through the Genmoji feature, and Siri is getting entirely overhauled. Note that Apple Intelligence isn't yet live in the betas.

Along with the AI features (which will be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro models and M-series iPads), ‌iOS 18‌ brings a redesigned Home Screen with the option to rearrange app icons and widgets with open spaces, plus there's a tint option and new darker colors for Dark Mode.

iOS 18 Home Screen Feature 1

Control Center has been revamped and you can pick and choose what you want to have front and center from the new Controls Gallery. There are multiple pages so you can group related controls, and you can customize sizes. As part of this update, the Flashlight and Camera icons on the Lock Screen can be swapped out, and you can also choose Control Center options for the ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ Action Button.

The Messages app supports scheduling texts, you can use any emoji for the Tapback feature, and you can send messages via satellite. There are text effects you can use for any word, phrase, or emoji, plus formatting like bold and italic is an option. For texts with Android users, Apple now supports RCS, which basically means you won't run into issues with sending images and files, plus you can see typing indicators and read receipts and send texts over Wi-Fi.

iMessage Send Later iOS 18

Safari is able to summarize webpages and show you important info at a glance, the Photos app has been overhauled to focus more on surfacing your best photos. A dedicated Passwords app makes it easier to get to your saved passwords and logins, and you can now lock any app with Face ID or Touch ID.

There are a ton of new features in ‌iOS 18‌ and ‌iPadOS 18‌ that aren't mentioned here, so for a more in-depth look make sure to check out our iOS 18 roundup and our iPadOS 18 roundup.

Amazon offers ultimate reason to ditch your Kindle and switch to something better - Express

Kindle lovers are being offered the ultimate reason to ditch their current e-reader and switch to something with a swathe of bonus features. The ultimate Kindle Scribe not only offers a giant 10.2-inch 300 ppi glare-free display for browsing books and reading this month's best sellers but it also comes with its very own stylus which lets you make notes and scribble on the screen. It can even turn your written messages into fully editable text plus you can write over books or PDFs being viewed on that huge front-lit panel.

The Scribe will also keep you reading for a month without needing a refill - that's the longest battery life of any Kindle Amazon sells. Just like all of the firm's e-readers, you can access over one million books via the online store and you can buy it with up to 64GB of storage so there's plenty of room to keep all of those favourite paperbacks.

The standard 16GB version with Basic Pen usually costs a pretty hefty £329.99 but that cost has been slashed to just £209.99 - that's a saving of £120.

Opt for the 64GB Kindle with Premium Pen and you'll pay £274.99 rather than the usual £409.99.

YOU CAN SEE THE KINDLE SCRIBE DEALS HERE

If that all sounds a bit too pricey then there are plenty more deals on Kindles including the standard model now down to just £64.99 and the Kindle Paperwhite dropped to £149.99.

The only thing to be aware of is that these discounts are exclusive for Prime members as part of Prime Day - that's a subscription plan that costs £8.99 per month.

Luckily, that price can be avoided by signing up and getting one month for free.

"We're giving you 30 days of Prime for £8.99 FREE. Unlimited delivery, award-winning TV shows, exclusive deals, and more," Amazon explained on its sign-up page.

If that sounds enticing you can join Prime here - just remember, if you forget to cancel you will be charged £8.99 per month once the freebie ends.

Those wanting to stick with Prime will find it offers more than just yearly deals. This paid-for service also offers unlimited One-Day Delivery and Same-Day delivery for eligible orders above £20. There are exclusive Lightning Deals plus bonus extras such as unlimited storage for photos and Prime Video access.

That means you can watch shows such as Clarkson's Farm without paying anything extra.

Prime Day starts tomorrow and Express.co.uk will be bringing you all the best deals and offers not to miss.
