Temper Your Enthusiasm for Huge Week of PlayStation News - Push Square

PlayStation Rumours

Update: Well, well, well. As the infamous WaddleDeeKnows taught us recently, always consider pumping the brakes before you buy into the latest Twitter rumour. After huge hype on social media over the weekend – and throughout the morning, too – Kinda Funny Games host Greg Miller has ever so slightly walked back his tweet about impending PlayStation news.

For those who haven’t followed the context, Miller said on Sunday that he’s delaying recording podcast PS I Love You until later because it “might be a very interesting week for PlayStation if even one of the three rumours I’ve heard is true”. This, understandably, blew up, as it followed a Bloomberg article on Friday about Sony’s rumoured Project Spartacus subscription. Miller confirmed that one of the three rumours is related to Project Spartacus, but it’s unclear how much he knows beyond the aforementioned Bloomberg article.

To be fair to Greg, his enthusiasm was picked up by a number of “insiders”, all of whom have been fuelling the flames. But Miller clarified during livestream Kinda Funny Games Daily that this may not be seismic news for everyone, and the rumours he’s heard aren’t necessarily all connected. Unfortunately, we’re still dealing in cryptic statements.

“One of the [rumours] is my [kinda] thing and I will know momentarily [if it’s true], that I can assure you,” he explained. “I don't want to go into why I would know momentarily. I know that something today is happening that would then tell me a little bit. And I don't know what I'll be able to say publicly, but I can say things privately to you if it turns out that it's embargoed.”

So yes, it does sound like there is meaningful stuff afoot, but it’s not worth getting excited about until we have a firmer picture of what everyone’s talking about. For the record, we did some digging earlier today and weren’t able to get a clear idea of what so-called “insiders” are referring to. That doesn’t mean nothing is happening – but it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what’s being discussed here when people are speaking in such vague and ambiguous terms.

Original Story: Rumours of a huge week for PlayStation are really beginning to pick up pace across the web, largely fuelled by a recent Bloomberg report that said Sony could unveil Project Spartacus at some point over the next seven days. For those totally out of the loop, this revamped subscription service aims to combine PS Plus and PS Now, offering multiple paid tiers with various benefits.

So where's all the new hubbub coming from? From what we can tell, much of the hype is being generated by an intriguing Greg Miller tweet. Over the weekend, Miller wrote: "Man, looking like it might be a VERY interesting week for PlayStation if even one of the three rumors I’ve heard is true. As such, we’re gonna delay recording PS I Love You XOXO until Thursday."

Obviously Miller is a man in the know, and the delay of his PS I Love You XOXO podcast lends a lot of additional weight to the rumours that something is going down in the coming week. What's more, Miller's hint at "three" rumours suggests that Sony might have plans that go beyond the aforementioned Project Spartacus. Maybe a State of Play is heading our way? We'll soon find out.

Now, we know what some of you may be thinking: rumours with regards to PlayStation happen all the time, and it's usually social media "insiders" chasing clout. But when it's Bloomberg, Greg Miller, and a few other trusted sources all suggesting that something's probably happening, we tend to think that it's worth paying attention.

What do you think could be in store for PlayStation this week? Go wild with ridiculous predictions in the comments section below.

iPhone 14 Pro's camera bump will be even bigger, rumours suggest - Daily Mail

iPhone 14 Pro's camera 'bump' will be even BIGGER than on previous versions due to a new 48-megapixel Wide camera, rumours suggest

  • Experts claim iPhone 14 models due this autumn will have a larger camera bump
  • The camera bump is the square platform of the top-left hand of the device's rear
  • A larger camera bump on Pro and Pro Max will house the 48-megapixel camera

Apple has only just released a new iPhone, but rumours about its next flagship smartphone device, due this autumn, are already rife.

According to respected leakers, cameras on the most expensive iPhone 14 models will stick out like never before, in order to house a 48-megapixel Wide camera.

iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will have a square camera bump on the rear measuring 1.44-inch by 1.5 inch (36.73mm by 38.21mm), according to leaked specs – slightly larger than on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max.

The camera lenses themselves will also protrude outwards by 0.16 inches (4.17mm) on both the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, compared to 0.14 inches (3.6mm) on the iPhone 13 models, according to the leak.

Protruding camera components are unpopular with some smartphone fans, as they require protection from an extra chunky smartphone case to stop them from being damaged.

iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max ¿ the most expensive of the iPhone 14 models likely due this autumn ¿ will have a square camera bump on the rear measuring 1.44-inch by 1.5 inch (36.73mm by 38.21mm), according to leaked specs. These numbers are larger than the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Max.  The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max camera lenses themselves will also protrude outwards by 0.16-inch (4.17mm), the leak claims - again, more than the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max

MEGAPIXELS AND PHOTO QUALITY

One megapixel is equal to one million pixels – the tiny dots that make up a digital photograph on a display screen.

But it's a common misconception that the amount of megapixels directly relates to the quality of the image.

While megapixel is of course relevant to image quality, another important factor is the quality of the sensor that is in the camera.

It's the sensor that converts light from an image into electrical signals, which are digitalised and collectively saved as a single image.

Source: Techopedia

The leaked specs were posted to Twitter this month by Max Weinbach, a Connecticut-based tech enthusiast and a writer for XDA Developers.

They show blueprints for both the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, including the lengths of the camera bump – the square platform on the top left of the smartphones' rear that houses the lenses.

The dimensions of the camera bump will be marginally larger on the iPhone 14 Pro Max than the iPhone 14 Pro – by mere fractions of a millimetre, the blueprints show.

Weinbach's claims were also corroborated by Ming-Chi Kuo, another Apple product predictor based in Taiwan.

Kuo said that the main reason for the larger and more prominent camera bump' is due to 'upgrading the rear camera to 48MP [megapixels]', which will offer a hefty update over the iPhone 13's 12MP camera system.

One megapixel is equal to one million pixels – the tiny dots that make up a digital photograph on a display screen.

More pixels in an image means more pixels per inch (PPI), resulting in more pixel information, which tends to create a more detailed image (although more megapixels doesn't necessarily equal better photos).

iPhone 14 is expected to be released this autumn, in four different variations – a standard model, a Mini, Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The 48MP camera is expected to come with the iPhone Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max (the two more expensive models) but not the standard model or Mini.

According to MacRumors, the 48MP camera system will allow for 8K video recording, offering a significant upgrade 4K video recording capabilities.

Taiwanese research firm TrendForce already predicted back in January that a 48MP primary camera is expected to be introduced to the iPhone 14 Pro series that Apple will release this year, likely in September.

Apple has already recently released a new iPhone this month – the third-generation 'budget' iPhone SE starting at £419 in the UK and $429 in the US.

It's equipped with the Apple A15 Bionic chip, found in the iPhone 13, a 12 megapixel camera, and 5G connectivity.

It also recently released green versions of its iPhone 13, the firm's current flagship that was originally released in September last year.

Shortly after the green iPhone versions were revealed, rival tech firm Samsung mocked Apple by suggesting they're a similar shade to its own Galaxy S22 Ultra.

WILL APPLE FINALLY DITCH THE NOTCH IN THE IPHONE 14? LEAKED SCHEMATIC REVEALS HOW TWO CUT-OUTS COULD REPLACE THE UNSIGHTLY BLACK BAR HOUSING THE FRONT-FACING CAMERAS

Since it was introduced in the iPhone X back in 2017, the 'notch' has been one of the most-hated features in Apple's smartphones.

The unsightly black bar houses the front-facing cameras, but eats away into the display, and is particularly obstructive while watching films or playing games.

Now, a new leak suggests that Apple could finally be ditching the notch in favour of two cut-outs at the top of the screen.

While Apple is yet to confirm or deny the news, a leaked schematic posted to Chinese social media site Weibo shows what the new feature could look like.

The schematic was spotted by 9to5Mac, and appears to show two cut-outs that will replace the notch.

UK Charts: Kirby And The Forgotten Land Gobbles Up The Top Spot - Nintendo Life

Kirby
Image: Nintendo

The latest UK charts are in and after a wave of positive reviews, Kirby and the Forgotten Land has landed the top spot, comfortably beating out the multi-platform release of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands.

Kirby's performance makes it the biggest launch in the franchise, selling 2.5x the number of copies as 2018's Kirby Star Allies, which was the previous record holder. It's also now the fifth biggest Kirby game in the UK, coming in just behind Kirby's Adventure Wii (Kirby's Return to Dream Land in the US).

Elsewhere, it's looking like business as usual for the UK charts, but Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe has made a surprising comeback, jumping up 10 spaces from the previous week to land in at number 7.

On the flip side, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has expectedly made a return to the top 10, though only just. Wave 1 of the Booster Course Pass has clearly given the game a slight boost, though whether it manages to maintain its position remains to be seen.

Finally, Pokémon Legends: Arceus hold strong, dropping down only 1 position from the previous week. It'll be interesting to see how long the game manages to remain in the top 10 ahead of the launch of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

PlayStation tipped for busy week of announcements | VGC - Video Games Chronicle

PlayStation has been tipped for a busy week of announcements, according to journalists covering the games industry.

Prominent reporter Greg Miller of Kinda Funny announced on Sunday that he would be delaying this week’s edition of his popular PlayStation podcast PS I Love You XOXO due to “three rumours I’ve heard” about impending announcements.

“Man, looking like it might be a VERY interesting week for PlayStation if even one of the three rumors I’ve heard is true,” he wrote. “As such, we’re gonna delay recording PS I Love You XOXO until Thursday.”

Miller’s post follows a Bloomberg report claiming that Sony could announce its Game Pass rival codenamed ‘Spartacus’ this week. VGC’s own sources corroborated this story and said that news was expected early this week.

It’s claimed the new subscription service will combine two of Sony’s existing offerings, PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus, and phase out the branding of the latter.

The new service is expected to launch for PS4 and PS5 this spring and to be structured across three payment tiers, offering benefits such as free monthly games, extended demos and a library of classic PlayStation games.

VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb claimed last month that the service’s highest tier will cost $16 per month.

“Right now they are called ‘essential’, ‘extra’ and ‘premium’,” Grubb said on his Giant Bomb show. “The pricing, again could be a placeholder, but the pricing is $10 a month for essential, $13 a month for extra and $16 a month for premium.”

Grubb suggested the premium tier could include free trials of all PlayStation first-party titles.

“For premium, $16 a month… do you get full games? Not really… it’s like EA Play. You get full game trials. I don’t know if that’s for every single game that comes out, but it seems like that.” he said.

“You also get classic games and streaming. None of the other tiers will have cloud streaming.”

MoonSwatch chaos as hundreds queue outside Scots store overnight in shopping frenzy - Daily Record

Hundreds of dedicated shoppers queued up overnight outside a Scots store to be in with a chance of buying a sought-after new watch.

Watch fans queued amid the release of the BIOCERAMIC MoonSwatch, a range of watches made in collaboration between brands Swatch and Omega.

A watch from the collection costs just £207 - a fraction of the price when compared with the Omega model, which costs around £5,000.

The highly-anticipated watches went on sale at the Swatch store in Edinburgh on Saturday, sparking a shopping frenzy.

Customers were spotted queuing up on Princes Street as early as 11pm on Friday night ahead of the shop opening the next day.

Hundreds of people had joined the huge winding queue early on Saturday morning, which stretched back to nearby Rose Street by Saturday morning.

While the watches may cost under £300 when bought from the retailer, they are already being sold over £3,000 on eBay.

The collection is the brands' affordable take on Omega's 'legendary Speedmaster Moonwatch'.

Swatch says: "The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch is legendary and a must-have for collectors.

"BIOCERAMIC Moon-Swatch collection makes the iconic design accessible to fans everywhere."

In a statement on social media, Swatch UK told customers that due to 'unexpected and phenomenal demand' they would be limiting purchase to one watch per customer.

Shoppers and passersby took to Twitter amid the excitement.

One said: "Edinburgh queuing for the new Swatch X Omega watches. Starts on Princes st, up Frederick st, along Rose st and stops just before Charlotte sq."

Another added: "The swatch queue is crazy in Edinburgh. My estimate is around 1,000 people waiting for a #MoonSwatch. All the way down rose street about 10 people every 10 meters."

Thousands queue at watch shops across the globe to get the must-have MoonSwatch - Daily Mail

Chaos in Carnaby Street as hundreds queue overnight to get must-have Omega X Swatch timepiece for £207 that is already selling for more than £3,000 on eBay

  • Highly anticipated release of the MoonSwatch saw huge crowds and queues form at Swatch stores globally
  • The watch is based on Omega's iconic Moonwatch but is much more affordable with a price tag of just £207
  • London's Carnaby Street store was forced to close early after some attempted to jump the queue to get one

Chaos erupted outside Swatch in London's Carnaby Street after customers fought to get their hands on the highly-anticipated MoonSwatch.

The disorder broke out after it was reported that customers who had arrived late attempted to cut the queue and force their way in past those dedicated fans who had waited outside overnight.

The disruption meant Swatch was forced to close early citing unmanageable crowds which left some fans walking away empty handed despite waiting hours.

It comes as long lines began to form outside of Swatch branches in London, Edinburgh, Delhi, Melbourne, Rotterdam, Bologne and New York, to name a few, on Saturday as shoppers tried to get their hands on the new release from the Swiss watchmaker.

The frenzied shopping has been sparked by the release of the budget MoonSwatch - a long-awaited collaboration between Swatch and Omega.

The highly-anticipated timepiece went on sale this morning with a price tag of £207 but is already on eBay for more than £3,000.

The MoonSwatch is an affordable take on the famous collector's favourite Speedmaster Professional - also known as the Moonwatch because it was the first watch worn by an astronaut walking on the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969.

The iconic brands say they collaborated in a bid to deliver 'the best of both words' between luxury and affordability - with the MoonSwatch coming in at £207 while the original model will easily set you back £5,000.

The brands say they have drawn their design inspiration from space, to create a collection of eleven Swatch models named after planetary bodies, 'from the giant star at the centre of the solar system to the dwarf planet at its periphery'.

The watch features all the key design elements that the original Moonwatch has including the asymmetrical case, the famous tachymeter scale with the dot over ninety and the distinctive Speedmaster subdials.

The companies sent watch collectors into a frenzy on Thursday when they announced the design collaboration and queues formed outside selected branches across the world this morning as fans were desperate to get their hands on a piece.

Photos showed queues snaking through streets across the world while police officers were deployed to some branches to help manage the crowds.

The company said in a statement: 'Omega's Moonwatch is legendary and a must-have for collectors. Swatch's witty BIOCERAMIC MoonSwatch collection makes the iconic design accessible to fans everywhere.

'It's a down to earth take on the watch that went to the moon, which is a perfect representation of Swatch's joy of life and innovation philosophy.'

Speculation had been swirling for months of a collaboration between Swatch and Omega - before it was confirmed the MoonSwatch would be launched on March 26.

Each watch is based on a space theme and titled after a planet or moon - with all the names beginning with the word 'Mission'.

'Mission to Mars', 'Mission to Mercury' and 'Mission to Uranus' are among the different names.

The watches have been designed so the colours and layouts reflect the planets they are named after.

'The Swatches are perfect for budding Moonwatch fans, and I can't think of a more appropriate icon for our shared project,' said Raynald Aeschlimann, president and chief executive officer of Omega. 'We went to the moon; now we're exploring the whole Milky Way.'
