Amazon scam threatens to permanently lock your account and it's easy to be fooled - Express

If you get an email from this week you need to be on high alert. The online retailer is being targeted by scammers who are using the popularity of the brand to try and trick customers into handing over personal details including full user names and passwords. The nasty hack, which has been spotted by Express.co.uk, claims that Amazon users are about to be locked out of their accounts permanently due to suspicious activity.

The message then urges customers to click a link within three days to complete an "account recovery" or risk losing total access to the platform. That's a pretty scary warning and it's easy to see why some might be tempted to do what they are being told.

The full message reads, "Hello, We have temporarily placed your Amazon account and cancelled all orders because we detected unusual activity.

"Click the button below and follow the on-screen instructions to recover your account. After you complete the requested task, we will review and respond within 24 hours. If you don't complete account recovery within 3 days, we will lock your amazon account permanently. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused."

This is then followed by an orange box that asks users to "Sign-in to Amazon".

If you receive this email, it's vital to delete it without delay.

Explaining more about scams and what to watch out for Amazon said in post on its security pages: "Spoof or phishing emails are fraudulent emails attempting to get your personal information. They are generally made to look like they are coming from Amazon."

If you receive an e-mail claiming to be from Amazon, and you suspect it is a spoof or phishing e-mail, here are some things you can look out for:

• Amazon will never ask for personal information to be supplied by e-mail.

• Amazon will never request to update payment information that is not linked to an Amazon order you placed or an Amazon service you subscribed to.

OnePlus 10 Pro unboxing video: T3 reveals what you get - T3

The OnePlus 10 Pro has officially landed and unsurprisingly it's one of the best phones of 2022. But unlike previous generations, it seems to be here alone, there's no news yet of a cheaper OnePlus 10.

Competing with the likes of Samsung and Apple, OnePlus is a big name smartphone brand that consistently releases fantastic flagship handsets with killer cameras, reliable performance and top-tier displays.

Last year's OnePlus 9 Pro was rated a whopping five stars in its T3 review, and it's safe to say it was one of the best Android phones at the time. It continues to be a popular choice even now.

Because of that, I was looking forwards to finding out what OnePlus had in store for us next and I wasn't disappointed. I managed to take an early look at the phone, the experience starts when you first open up the packaging.

Unlike with some other smartphones, you still get everything you need included in the box. You won't need to buy the charging brick or a protective case separately which already makes this feel like a better deal than what you get elsewhere.

To read about what I thought when I tested it out, take a look at the OnePlus 10 Pro review. But first, check out the video below to see T3's official unboxing video.

You'll be able to buy the OnePlus 10 Pro in just two colours: Volcanic Black or Emerald Forest. Which you go for will largely depend on what you need from the phone itself, the black model comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while the green packs 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Available to pre-order right now, prices start from £799 in the UK and $XX in the US. Take a look below to find out where you can pick one up.

Global OnePlus 10 Pro model already receives its first update - GSMArena.com news - GSMArena.com

As you may know, yesterday OnePlus decided to finally take its 10 Pro out of China, and announced it for global markets. Today, a mere 24 hours after that, the company is already issuing the first software update to the global model.

The new release is labeled NE2211_11.A.11 in India, which is where it's rolling out first. In the EU it's going to be NE2213_11.A.12, and this rollout should follow very soon.

The changelog is the same for both markets, featuring optimizations in the focusing speed for videos shot in slo-mo, improved portrait mode shots, and a better white balance for the front camera, as well as an optimized fingerprint recognition algorithm that improves the success rate of unlocking, better performance and fluency in games, more stable Wi-Fi connections and an overall enhanced Wi-Fi experience, and generally better system stability.

Additionally, an issue with unstable mobile signal in specific scenarios has been fixed. As usual, the rollout of this update will be incremental, so it may take a few days for it to complete. Given that the global model was only announced a day ago, we're guessing this update is what's going to be waiting for 99% of owners as they take the phone out of the box.

State of Decay 3 report details troubled development - Eurogamer.net

A new report has shed light behind the scenes of State of Decay 3, the upcoming open world zombie game from the Undead Labs.

Details published by Kotaku include allegations of sexism and mismanagement at the Microsoft-owned studio, and paint a picture of a game project which is still struggling to get off the ground years after its official reveal.

State of Decay 3 began pre-production in late 2018, though developers at Undead Labs were reportedly poorly-managed and the project took several team re-organisations to get off the ground. Staff have claimed the game's public announcement in 2020 was too early, and at that point Undead Labs "didn't even know what it was".

The report also alleges sexism - that female employees were ignored or blamed during meetings, and subject to sexist remarks - as well as failures by HR. Rules on meeting etiquette reportedly had to be enforced, though did not solve these issues.

In 2018, when Undead Labs was bought by Microsoft, staff said the concern had been an enforced change of culture. Now, staff say Microsoft should have done more.

"We were afraid they would come in and change our culture," one staff member said, "but our collapse came from within and we could have used [Microsoft's] help."

The subsequent switchover from previous studio boss Jeff Strain to former ArenaNet exec Philip Holt as head of the company also caused friction, it was reported, as well as frustration over the company's allegedly ineffective new HR boss Anne Schlosser.

It was here, last summer, after several public testimonials of working conditions, that Microsoft apparently did step in. In September, Schlosser "quietly left". However, the damage has been done, and a wave of departures followed.

Holt's plans for internal demos of the game also caused problems, with staff departures and a lack of focus seeing plans eventually shifted at employee behest.

Employee opinion on the game now seems mixed - some say it has finally turned a corner, while others are more sceptical of how the project will continue with further departures and under the studio's current leadership.

"I recognise that some of our employees, current and former, have shared that their experiences at the Lab weren't always positive," Holt said in a statement issued in response. "Our past culture does not exemplify who we are now, nor who we want to become. We have seen a lot of change in the last few years: we have an entirely new leadership team, including new HR Director and department in 2021; hired about 75 employees since the beginning of the pandemic; and have transformed the demographic make-up of our team.

"We've already seen that our ongoing cultural transformation is creating a better workplace for the team, which leads to better games for our community. I am proud of the work we have done, humbled by the task in front of us, positioned to learn from this experience, and committed to doing better every day."

E3 2022 in all forms is canceled and we can't believe it - TechRadar

Audio player loading…

Consider this the other shoe dropping. Almost three months after deciding to make the E3 gaming conference an all-digital event, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has pulled the plug on the entire affair.

"We previously announced that E3 would not be held in person in 2022 due to the ongoing health risks surrounding COVID-19," the ESA told TechRadar. "Today, we announce that there will also be no digital E3 showcase in 2022."

The news came first via an industry insider, Will Powers, PR lead, Americas for popular gaming gear company Razer. He tweeted the news of the apparent cancellation on Thursday:

That's the bad news. The good news is, as of today, the ESA is planning to bring back E3 in 2023. The organization told TechRadar, "E3 will return in 2023 with a reinvigorated showcase that celebrates new and exciting video games and industry innovations."

The ESA added that it will "devote all our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer."

It's been a rough few years for E3. In the face of the pandemic, it canceled the event in 2020, successfully held an all-digital one last year, but was forced to again cancel in-person festivities for 2022 in the face of the Omicron surge.

While we're mostly through that COVID variant wave, ESA has made another tough decision for the once-bustling event (66,000 attendees in 2019), pulling the plug on the digital experience, as well.

The loss of even a virtual event could be a tough pill to swallow for gamers who see it as more than just an industry trade show. As TRG's Vic Hood wrote when E3 canceled this year's in-person event:

"[E3] has grown to become a celebration of gaming: media attend to report on the biggest upcoming games, while fans attend to get their hands on the newest releases and to be among like-minded individuals. I can only describe it as a paradise for gamers."

Happily, we won't be completely devoid of an industry event jam packed full of new announcements. Summer Game Fest is returning for its third year running – although an exact date has yet to be announced.

In previous years, it's been host to global showcases from the likes of Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. So it should make for a decent substitute in the absence of an E3 this year.

It's not, according to the ESA the end of E3, and it's been through rough patches before. In 2016, multiple major game studios, including EA and Activision Blizzard, pulled out of the show, holding their own game showcases nearby. Plus, interest has waxed and waned in the periods between new console launches and major title releases.

E3 has, in general, rebounded and was looking strong right up until the pandemic when virtually all in-person tradeshows around the world were either canceled or shifted to virtual events.

As we write this, the ESA has not updated its social media or its news blog, though we assume it will soon. Notably, the E3 Twitter account page still has an E3 2021 logo on it and has posted nothing about any change in status for the event.

The official E3 page does say, "E3 2022 See you next year," with no hint of irony that we're already well into 2022. Subscribers to the E3 newsletter get a welcome message that still includes "E3 2021" in the header art.
